1st ID (1986-1987/1989 for WFLD)


Visuals: In a black background, with a reflective floor, we see "FOX" in gold, with the "O" being represented via negative space. The camera pans through the logo and the station's channel number at the center rotates in, complete with its callsign and city of license below.

Trivia: All of the stations that used this template were Fox owned and operated stations at the time, including:

  • WNYW
  • KTTV
  • WFLD
  • WFXT
  • WTTG
  • KRIV
  • KDAF

Variant: A still variant of this was used on the Saturday Night Live Season 13 episode hosted by Judge Reinhold, right before "The Cop & the Prostitute" sketch. Here, the logo shines and is on a gold background with searchlights behind it.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A dramatic fanfare. Composed by VTS Productions. The WNYW version had a chime ring at the end.

Availability: Was used by Fox O&Os. This continued to be used by WFLD in its sign-off as late as 1989. The SNL variant is retained on the said episode.

2nd ID (Don't Let Fox Weekend Pass You By) (1987-1988)


Visuals: Panning up from a bridge below, a darkened Fox structure stands in the distance, against the night sky. The searchlights switch on, one-by-one, as the structure brightens.

Technique: Live-action, with CGI for the local IDs.

Audio: A faster-paced re-orchestration of the short 20th Century Fox fanfare, composed by Non-Stop Music.

3rd ID (This is the Year, This is Fox) (1989-1990)

5th ID (Everybody Knows It's on Fox) (1992-1993)


Visuals: A darkened Fox logo zooms out, as several searchlights pan by. As the logo starts to settle back, it starts to flash orange, with magenta haze-like lights appearing behind the logo.

6th ID (It Could Only Happen on Fox) (1993-1994)


Visuals: Unknown

Technique: Stop-motion and 2D animation.

7th ID (Fox is Kickin' It!) (1994-1995)


Visuals: On a black background, there is a faint dark blue Fox logo. Several golden yellow sparks draw out the outline of the logo as two golden searchlights cross. The camera slowly pans up so that the Fox logo is facing forward, as another set of searchlights cross. The former two searchlights move upwards. Both sets of searchlights collide, causing a flash that turns the Fox logo gold. The searchlights appear behind the logo as the camera zooms out to reveal the rest of the logo, until it is at a slightly curved angle. Several white stars move toward the Fox logo in the background (likely resembling space) as the searchlights continue to move.

Technique: CGI by TVart, Inc.

Audio: An upbeat pop fanfare with a group of female singers singing "Fox is Kicking It!" at the end.

Audio Variants:

  • Sometimes, an announcer would announce "This is FOX (station number)"
  • An anniversary version exists, which has the same singers from the main theme announcing "It's our (anniversary number) year, (station name) FOX (station number)!", followed by the regular slogan.
