Background

Dakota Pictures (formerly Dakota North Entertainment) is an American film/television production and development company founded in 1985 by Troy Miller.

Dakota North Entertainment

1st Logo (April 28, 1991-November 24, 1995)

Visuals: On a orange background, there is a circle with a diamond with a line across as triangles with half-shaded and half non-shaded with a shape of ahead inside the circle. On the shape, there is the yellow-gradient text "DAKOTA NORTH" in a stacked format with "ENTERTAINMENT, INC." below it, in black.

Technique: A still, digital graphic.

Audio: The closing theme.

Availability: Seen on season 1 of Mr. Show with Bob and David.

2nd Logo (November 15, 1996-October 12, 2003)


Visuals: On a black background, there is an image of a weather vane with a buffalo standing on the word "DAKOTA" against a dark brown sky. The words "D A K O T A" and "NORTH ENTERTAINMENT, INC." are above and below the picture, respectively.

Variants:

  • An early version exists where the vane is against a sunset background and the words are in white.
  • An animated version exists where the camera zooms out from the sky as the vane takes its position. The name then fades in.
    • A short version exists.

Technique: A still image. CGI for the animated variant.

Audio: None or the closing theme.

Audio Variant: On the animated variant, a whistle and guitar tune (taken from the Tenacious D episode "Road Gig") is heard.

Availability: Seen on Mr. Show with Bob and David (seasons 2 and 3), Tenacious D, the unsold pilot of Super Nerds, and the TV movie Windy City Heat, among others.

Dakota Pictures

1st Logo (October 26, 2003-April 20, 2016)

Visuals: The logo varies, but all the variants involve a "DP" connected together with "DAKOTA PICTURES" below it.

Variants:

  • Flight of the Conchords: The logo, contained in a rectangle, zooms out on a black background. A shining star appears on the top-left.
  • Viva La Bam: There is a black metal sign of the logo surrounded by a blue outlined rectangle with two blue bars that contain four 5-pointed stars each on a off-white background with a star.
  • Bored to Death: On a black background with a white highlight, there is the logo covered with black lines on a rectangle with gray lines.
  • Eagleheart: The letters are in gold, and the company name is in white on a black background. Then, a blood stain appears on the letters.
  • Deadbeat: The camera zooms past through some buildings, then stops at a building with the logo in white over it.

Audio: None or the closing theme.

Availability: Each variant appears on its respective show.

2nd Logo (March 30, 2016-December 24, 2018)

Visuals: There is a shining light that reveals the same logo from before, but metallic and contained in a outlined rectangle. The logo zooms out a bit and shines.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A twinkling noise with a whoosh sound.

Audio Variant: On Lopez, there is the closing theme with the whoosh sound.

Availability: Seen on Lopez, Hidden America with Jonah Ray, and 12 Deadly Days.

3rd Logo (September 24, 2019-March 2, 2023)

Visuals: Zooming out on a dark background, four parallel blue lasers beam out while the "DP" logo from before turns in within its own box. The logo, alongside "DAKOTA PICTURES", also stylized like before, are divided by a vertical bar inside a horizontal bordered box. The "DP" logo shines afterwards.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: It begins with a single note, followed by a chord.

Availability: The logo is seen on Jeff Dunham: Beside Himself, Marlon Wayans: The Headliners, and Marlon Wayans: God Loves Me.

4th Logo (May 4, 2024-)

Visuals: A steel blue tinted studio filled with photography lighting is shown. The screen turning directions to align "P"'s filled counter, the "D"'s bowl, and the sun in the background. After the alignment, "DAKOTA PICTURES" fades in below the logo.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: None.

Availability: The logo is seen on Katt Williams: Woke Foke.
