Background

Twenty Twenty Television is a television production company founded in 1982. They produced numerous programmes of varying genres including documentaries, dramas, reality TV shows, etc. In September 2007, the company joined the Shed Media Group (now named Warner Bros. Television Productions UK).



1st Logo (1982?-1989)

Visuals: On a black background, there is a light blue outline of the serif text "TWENTY"" on a thin outline of a rectangle with the same color, containing the same word but in a chrome effect. Underneath it is the chrome text "TELEVISION" with a thin line underneath.

Variants:

  • Sometimes, the logo reads "A TWENTY TWENTY TELEVISION Production" or has "Produced by" on the top.
  • Programmes co-produced with Channel 4 would have "for CHANNEL FOUR" underneath the logo, alongside its copyright notice.

Technique: A still, computerized graphic.

Audio: None or the ending theme of the programme.

Availability: Seen on their earlier documentaries such as the Equinox series.

2nd Logo (1989-1991)

Visuals: On a gradient blue background, two lighter blue bars wipe in and out: the top one from left to right and the bottom in the opposite direction. They wipe again and are shown with the words "TWENTY" inside them and then after the second sequence, they both wipe in together and a light bursts on top of them, displaying the text in white and popping out of the bars as well as add "TELEVISION" underneath. Extra credit info additionally fades in below.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: None or the ending theme of the programme.

Availability: It was seen on Inside the Brotherhood.

3rd Logo (1991-1993)

Visuals: On a black background, a blue-white gradient box wipes in from the centre, followed by the same text from before with the bottom "TWENTY" in black in the same animation. Then, a small light slowly fades in alongside the bottom credit info.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: None or the ending theme of the programme.

Availability: Like the previous logo, it was seen on programmes that are no longer broadcasted or have no home media release of any kind. Its only known appearances so far were on the Black Panthers and Coppers documentaries.

4th Logo (1993-2000)

Visuals: Against a black-blue gradient background, the same design from before but with two bars with a blue gradient mashed together vertically slides in. Shortly before completing its sequence, a large light ray fades in and slightly scrolls up. Like before, the bottom credit info fades in concurrently with the light ray sequence.

Variants:

  • Most of the time, the logo is still.
  • A later version of this logo has the logo and light bigger and the background darker.
  • On The Boer War, the company name appears between "Produced by" and "for Channel 4".
  • On the Dispatches documentary "The War Crimes Files", the bottom notice reads:

  • On the The Big Story documentary "Lethal Weapons", the logo appears within the 1995 Carlton UK Productions logo.

Availability: Appears on programmes from this period such as a few Dispatches and The Big Story documentaries such as "The War Crime Files" and "Lethal Weapons" respectively as well as The Boer War.

5th Logo (May 15, 2000-May 4, 2010)


Visuals: A blurry, blue copy of the same text fades in while expanding vertically. In the middle of this sequence, the text in white and a black outline fades in, followed by "television" underneath and then the credit info.

Variants:

  • The logo can appear within split-screen credits.
  • A superimposed variant exists where the logo is within a black box.
    • On Child Chain Smoker, the box is omitted.
  • On most shows produced for Channel 4 in the early 2000s, the bottom notice would read:

  • Split-screen versions of early Lad's Army episodes has the bottom notice read "Produced by Twenty Twenty Television". Beginning later in series 1, "Television" would be removed.
    • On modern prints of said show, it's just the Twenty Twenty logo as well as its bottom notice.
  • On Blood on the Altar: Secrets of the Dead, both the "television" and credit info pop up simultaneously.
  • One episode of My Boyfriend The Sex Tourist has the bottom notice read "Distributed by Channel 4 International".
    • The episode on Venezuela has the split-screen variant on a blue background with the copyright notice reading "© Twenty Twenty Television MMVII" underneath and outside the box.
  • Likely beginning in 2007, the byline "A Shedmedia™ Company" is added underneath the Twenty Twenty logo.
  • A rare inverted variant exists where the text is black and the gradients on the bursts are flipped.

Availability:

  • It was seen on many documentaries as well as reality TV shows mostly produced for Channel 4, including a few others for the BBC.
  • This includes Lad's Army, My Boyfriend The Sex Tourist, the first three series of The Choir, That'll Teach Em, and many more.
  • The split-screen variant was seen on original airings of Lad's Army and That'll Teach Em, although they may be replaced with a standard variant on later prints.
    • However, it was kept on My Boyfriend The Sex Tourist as well as Wakey Wakey Campers and Child Chain Smokers, the latter two of which are superimposed.
  • The Shed Media byline variant was so far seen on Shanties and Sea Songs with Gareth Malone, which is one of the logo's last appearances, and possibly series 2 and 3 of The Choir.

6th Logo (September 9, 2010-)


Visuals: Mostly a still logo consisting of a dodger blue tube outline containing the stacked words "twenty twenty"

  • 2015-: A WARNER BROS. TELEVISION PRODUCTION UK COMPANY (stacked and with the Warner Bros. shield to the left)

Variants:

  • Sometimes, a copyright notice representing this company is added underneath.
  • In the logo's early years, it was sometimes animated. Here, the logo would flip in horizontally. Then, the tube shape is filled white, followed by the text colour turning dark blue.
  • The superimposed and split-screen variants behaves the same as the previous logo.
  • Programs produced by the company's Brighton division adds said city to the copyright notice.
  • On Remotely Funny, the bottom notice reads "Twenty Twenty Kids Ltd.".
  • Sometimes, this logo also shares the screen with other logos (including the 1997 BBC logo).

Availability:

  • Like with the previous logo, it was seen on numerous programmes over the course of a decade including documentaries, dramas, reality TV shows, and even a children's show such as Remotely Funny.
  • The animated variant was only seen on programmes during the logo's early years such as Gareth Malone's Extraordinary School for Boys, Young Nuns, and My Family's Crazy Gap Year.
  • The Shed Media byline was seen on the aforementioned shows as well as later series of The Choir, The Hoarder Next Door, Styled to Rock, and much more from the early 2010s.
  • The Warner Bros. TV byline had one of its earliest appearances on Rich Kids Go Shopping and was also seen on A House Through Time and The Best of British Takeaways.
  • The superimposed variant was so far seen on My Transsexual Summer.
