Background

This was the production arm of ITV Anglia, formerly known as Anglia Television. Today, this regional television station uses the normal ITV Studios logo, alongside many other ITV franchise holders.

Anglia Productions

1st Logo (October 27, 1959-1960?)

Visuals: On a black background, a white silhouette of the Anglia pennant flag is shown with "ANGLIA" in a thinner font. On top and underneath are the words "AN" and "PRODUCTION".

Variant: An opening variant exists, consisting of the normal logo superimposed onto the opening scene of the programme with "PRESENTS" underneath.

Technique: It appears to be a printed card.

Audio: The ending theme of the programme or none.

Availability:

  • This was only a placeholder logo.
  • Seen on the earliest Anglia Television original programmes such as its very first production, Introducing Anglia, and Birth of a Regiment.

2nd Logo (1960?-1970)

Visuals: Against a cloudy background, the 1959 Anglia flag is shown with "PRODUCTION" underneath it.

Variant: On A Tribute to Shakespeare: The Unparalleled, the text "AN ABOUT ANGLIA SPECIAL PRESENTATION" appears underneath the flag.

Technique: It appears to be a printed card.

Audio: The ending theme of the programme or none.

Availability:

  • Seen on Encircled Force, For Those in Peril: The Story of Henry Blogg, and A Tribute to Shakespeare: The Unparalleled.
  • Some of them are found on the East Anglian Film Archive.

3rd Logo (1966-March 21, 1988)

Visuals:

  • Opening: Same as the station ID of the era.
  • Closing: On a blue background, a full shot of the silver knight model is shown standing on a gold horizontal bar. To the left of it is the Anglia logo in gold and "COLOUR PRODUCTION" in a stacked format placed underneath, overlapping with the bottom line.

Variants:

  • "COLOUR PRODUCTION" may be reworded to "PRESENTATION" (which was seen at the end of movies and imported programmes) or simply "PRODUCTION".
  • For Anglia's Channel Four-produced programmes, the knight is displayed without the yellow line on its background but with the text of "AN ANGLIA TELEVISION PRODUCTION FOR CHANNEL FOUR" below it.
  • Another version exists with the word "PRODUCTION" at the bottom left of the screen, and the copyright text "© Anglia Television Limited (year)".
  • An early variant features the logo in black and white, the knight model is darker, and the bar is thicker.
  • On various programmes from the 1970s, the knight is brighter.
  • A filmed variant also exists, featuring the knight in a brighter tone and the text is also nearly white.

Technique:

  • Opening: Live-action.
  • Closing: Originally a printed card. Later, A still, digital graphic.

Audio:

  • Opening: Same as the station ID of the era.
  • Closing: The ending theme of the programme or none.

Availability: Seen on programmes by Anglia from the time-period until 1988.

  • These include season 1 of Knightmare, Tales of the Unexpected, Mouthtrap, Survival, Farming Diary, and Bygones, among many others.
  • The opening variant of this logo was used on all networked programmes by Anglia until ITV abolished frontcaps starting on January 1, 1988.
  • The opening variant was seen on Survival and Farming Diary episodes from this period.
    • However, the normal closing logo does not appear on the former show as it would use an in-credit notice instead.
  • It was also a victim to plastering to the 2001 Granada "G Without Arrow" logo or the 2013 ITV Studios Global Entertainment logo on Tales of the Unexpected and season 1 of Knightmare.
  • However, Challenge airings from the 2000s of the latter had this logo intact.
  • This logo is also preserved on DVD releases of their many TV movies such as Shroud for a Nightingale, Cover Her Face, The Black Tower, among several others.
  • Several of these programmes, with this logo intact, can be found on BFI Player and the East Anglian Film Archive.

4th Logo (March 21, 1988-2001)

Visuals: On a different slate background than the normal logo, there is a print version of the flag from before, with the text "ANGLIA Production" underneath.

Variants:

  • Sometimes, a copyright date is seen below.
  • An animated version exists, where the logo is instead an unmodified version of the 1988 Anglia ident.
  • A version with the words "ANGLIA TELEVISION Production" below the logo also exists, which is preserved on current prints of Miss Morrison's Ghosts, plastering the previous logo.
  • "ANGLIA Production" may sometimes be reworded to either "AN ANGLIA PROGRAMME", "ANGLIA PROGRAMME for ITV", "ANGLIA PRESENTATION for ITV" (both with the 1989 ITV logo below from September 1, 1989 until October 4, 1998), or "ANGLIA Production for Channel Four" (for Anglia's Channel Four-produced programmes).
  • On season 2 of Knightmare, the 1988 Anglia logo appears within the Broadsword Television logo.
  • On The Prayer For Us All the logo is next to the 1989 TVS logo and underneath it, the text reads "Anglia/TVS Production for ITV" with the 1989 ITV logo below.
  • In the logo's later years, it was seen within the United Productions logo.
    • One programme had the logo lack its turquoise background.
  • On Anglia at 40, "40" is placed on top of the triforce flag and "YEARS" is underneath it.
  • On Boot Sale Challenge and Round The Coast With Paul Heiney, the URL reading "www.angliatv.com" appears below the "AN ANGLIA PROGRAMME" text.
  • On Fragile Earth, the logo appears with the text reading "PRODUCED BY OXFORD SCIENTIFIC FILMS IN ASSOCIATION WITH ANGLIA TELEVISION FOR CHANNEL FOUR" appearing below.

Technique: A still, digital graphic. For the animated variant, CGI.

Audio: The ending theme of the programme, none, or a medieval-type fanfare which is different from the ID for the animated version.

Availability: Seen on programmes by Anglia from the time-period until 2001.

  • These include Tales of the Unexpected, Knightmare (beginning with season 2), Fantomcat, Rocky and the Dodos, The Animal Shelf, Fox Busters, The Year of the Seal, Father Christmas and the Missing Reindeer, Boot Sale Challenge, Round the Coast with Paul Heiney, John Wilson's Go Fishing Techniques, and the 1992 TV movie A Dangerous Man: Lawrence After Arabia, among many others.
  • Survival began using this logo with the episode "Seasons of the Sea" and until "Swamp Gorilla: Mystery of the Magic Marsh".
  • The animated version was found on some Survival episodes from the period.
  • This logo was also used to plaster over the previous logo on programmes dating from the late 1970s and early 1980s such as Science Report, Tales of the Unexpected, and Miss Morrison's Ghosts, among others.
  • The United Productions variant was seen on Foxbusters and season 3 of Where the Heart Is.
  • Seasons 1 and 2 of the latter uses the standard logo and is also intact on streaming prints of the aforementioned show.
  • However, the normal logo saw less usage in its later years when it was a subsidiary of United Productions.
  • Some original programmes otherwise lacked this logo despite Anglia being credited such as Bring Me The Head of Light Entertainment and Touching Evil, respectively.
  • Like before, it is intact on DVD releases of TV movies like Devices and Desires and Unnatural Causes, among others.

5th Logo (2001-October 31, 2004)

Visuals: On a purple room space filled by shadow copies of the 1988 Anglia Triforce symbol, and the square has the white 1988 Anglia Triforce logo inside. Under it is "An Anglia Television Production" in white.

Variants:

  • Sometimes, a copyright notice which reads "© Anglia Television Limited (year)" appears below.
  • On 911: The Firefighters Story, the text underneath changes and now reads "An Anglia Television Production for Channel 5 in association with Granada International".
    • However, on reprints of the aforementioned documentary such as an April 2023 airing on Virgin Media Three, the text is instead reworded to "An Anglia Television Production In Association With Channel 5 & Granada International" instead, and the copyright notice is also changed from 2003 to 2002.
  • On Demolition Day, this logo shares the screen with the 1999 Channel 4 "Square" logo, which appears on the right.
  • On Maybe Baby, this logo shares the screen with the Discovery Networks Europe logo, and the text also reads "An Anglia Television Production in association with Discovery Networks Europe".

  • These include 911: The Firefighters Story and Demolition Day, among others.
  • It also appears at the end of The Trisha Goddard Show.

Variant: On the Upstairs Downstairs episode "At Hinchingbrooke House", the 2004 ITV Anglia logo shares the screen with the Imago Productions logo with the words "An Imago Production for ITV" appearing below.

The background is now a blue gradient, the Anglia logo has been replaced with the 2006 ITV1 logo in yellow (although the Anglia logo can still be seen on the flag), "PRODUCTION" is also in a different font, and the knight (which is still on the right) has a shinier look.

Availability: Only seen on the October 27, 2009 edition of ITV Anglia Tonight, which was a special edition meant to celebrate Anglia's 50th birthday.
