WCET

From the Audiovisual Identity Database, the motion graphics museum

Background

WCET is a PBS affiliate located in Cincinnati, Ohio.

1st ID (1970's?-1991)

Visuals: On a superimposed screen is "48", with "WCET" in a rounded Bauhaus font below.

Technique: Live-action.

Audio: A tune theme with an announcer saying the title and station.

Availability: Only used as a local ID.

2nd ID (1976-1990)

Visuals: Against a black background, the word "cincinnati", in red letters, comes in from the right letter-by-letter, with light trails behind it. Then, from the dot of the first "i", four video screens zoom in, which have video clips playing that show various events throughout Cincinnati. Then, the screens slide away to each corner of the screen with little red, blue, and yellow lights flashing in their wake to show the following words in a golden font, on a black background.

wcet-tv
cincinnati, ohio

"wcet-tv" glows brightly.

Some of the video clips include:

  • A Cincinnati Reds game
  • A clip of The Racer at nearby Kings Island
  • A shot of a lake near the Cincinnati skyline
  • A man and his son in a park
  • A couple talking in front of a fountain
  • The Cincinnati Ballet Troupe

Variant: An alternate variant exists. Here, when the clips slide away, most lights were omitted, showing the silver WCET logo (consists of the number "48" inside a tube-like shape, with "wcet-tv" being connected with the shape below). The logo then shines on the "4".

Technique: Cel animation, and live-action for the clips.

Audio: An uplifting orchestra tune led by violins. Sometimes, an announcer is heard saying "Your entertainment station, WCET-TV 48, Cincinnati, Ohio."

Availability: Probably seen on Lillias! Yoga and You episodes from this era.

3rd ID (1984)

Visuals: The word "wcet", with "cincinnati, ohio" below, are seen over the Cincinnati skyline.

Technique: Live-action.

Audio: None.

Availability: Only seen on Relive the Magic.

4th ID (1991-1997)

Visuals: The logo starts with "WCET", outlined in purplish-pink and in a font somewhat similar to KCET's, over "Cincinnati", zooming in over an image of a paddle steamer at night.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: None.

Availability: Again, probably seen on Lillias! Yoga and You episodes from the era.

5th ID (2008-)

Visuals: On a blue background are the sans-serif letters "c", "e", and "t", in lowercase glow and fade one by one. Then, a yellow sun-like shape pops out with the "cet" text, in a custom serif font this time, while the word "connect" slowly wipes right.

Variant: A long version exists, where the CET logo glows.

Technique: 2D computer graphics.

Audio: A four-note flute piece, followed by an orchestral tune.
