Background

KAET (branded on-air as Arizona PBS) is a PBS affiliate located in Phoenix, Arizona and launched in 1961. The "AET" part of the name is meant to be pronounced as "Eight", which was used as the network's branding name from 2006-2015.

KAET

1st ID (1971-1982)

Visuals: A red-tinted photo of the Arizona desert is seen with a cactus in front. Next to it is "KAeT" in a tall font, with the "e" slanted and extending into an "8" shape, the bottom hole of which contains the 1971 PBS logo with "Phoenix" below.

Technique: A still image.

Audio: None.

2nd ID (1986-1995)

Visuals: Against a dull brown marble background is "KAET" in a giant typewriter font. Below that is "PHOENIX" in a much smaller font, but the same type, and above that is "A special presentation from" in the same font, even smaller.

Technique: A still CG render.

Audio: None.

Availability: Some old Arizona Collection series tapes from KAET may have it.

3rd ID (1988-1990)

Visuals: Over a black background, five colored lines wipe in from left to right, then move down and crash into a 5-segment colored line, revealing a glossy "KAET" which shines. The "8" and "P H O E N I X" appear next to and above it.

Technique: 2D CGI.

Audio: A piano tune with synth enhancements.

Availability: Used as a local ID.

4th ID (1995-2004)

Visuals: The camera pans off a gold lined circle with "ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY" inside. A purple "8" with four lines attached to it floats to its center, along with "KAET" zooming out below and a purple filling for the circle from behind. While the background zooms in and fills up as a warm cloudy sky, a gold ribbon marquee draws in on the bottom with "SINCE 1961" zooming onto it, and "PHOENIX" in white appears on the very bottom.

Technique: CGI by Rhonda Computer Graphics.

Audio: Same as before.

Availability: Used as a local ID.

Eight

ID (2006-2015)

Visuals: Against a maroon background with several gold "waves", a maroon rectangle with the PBS logo and "ei8ht" written on it turns into place. "A special presentation from" is written above.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A rather tense piano/string sounder.

Availability: Seen on Arizona Stories until 2015, which can be seen on both KAET and KUAT in Tucson, Arizona. DVDs of said show may also carry the logo. This also appeared on NETA programs from Sacred Earth, including the eponymous program and Echoes of Creation.
