Discovery Channel Pictures

Logo (May 8, 1998-March 12, 1999)


Visuals: Over a black background, the logo starts with various objects falling; these include bubbles, cars, animals, and at one point the Big Ben tower. The objects then form the Earth on the bottom-left corner of the screen, and a hand pushes the Earth to reveal the silver word "PICTURES" surrounding the globe as the background turns into space. The words "Discovery" and "CHANNEL" fade in, also in silver, beside and atop the Earth.

Technique: CGI, done at Xaos, Inc.

Audio: First, sounds of chattering and car horns are heard. Then, after the globe is spun, there is a quite chorus saying the company name.

Availability: Seen on Africa's Elephant Kingdom and Wildfire: Feel the Heat.

Discovery Docs

Logo (August 12, 2005)


Visuals: On a black background, there is a white line drawing down while shining. The line turns into some film strips. As the screen zooms out as the film strips make a purple swirling sphere, the text "DISCOVERY DOCS" under the purple swirling sphere. The logo shines, and twinkles quickly.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on at the end of Grizzly Man.

Discovery Films

Logo (September 1, 2007-July 18, 2008)


Visuals: Same as the Disovery Docs logo, but with enhanced animation. The filmstrips now show the Earth instead of being purple, and the text "DISCOVERY DOCS" is replaced with "Discovery Films". The Earth is spinning until the logo fades out.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A quiet hum with whooshes.

Audio Variants: On In The Shadow Of The Moon, the logo is silent.

Availability: Only seen on the films Encounters at the End of the World, Meerkat Manor: The Story Begins, In The Shadow Of The Moon and Man On Wire.
