American Cinema Releasing

From the Audiovisual Identity Database, the motion graphics museum

Note: Not to be confused with American Cinema Marketing.

1st Logo (1978-1980)

Visuals: On a black background, there is a blue star zooming up. Then a flash occurs, revealing a blue star on a white background. It is revealed to be the letters "ACR", with a star in place of the triangular negative space on the letter "A" with a dark blue shadow zooming out on a blue background. The text "FROM AMERICAN CINEMA RELEASING" with "FROM" in a smaller print fades in below.

Technique: Cel animation.

Audio: Composed by Richard Halligan, former member of the band Blood, Sweat, and Tears, it begins with a 70s-style synthesized tuner with a violin, with the hit synced to the appearance of the flash, with drumbeats when the logo zooms out. After the company name, it ends in a disco guitar riff.

Availability: Originally seen on the original theatrical version of Good Guys Wear Black and the Media Home Entertainment VHS of A Force of One, but is plastered with the second logo on newer prints.

2nd Logo (August 8, 1980-1982)

Visuals: On a black background, a light shines, then a white zooms in, leaving a trail of triangles, some white and some blue as it does this. Then the triangle flashes and disappears as a blue stylized "A" zooms towards the middle as it shoots blue bordered triangles at the screen. After the "A" rests, two more "A"s zoom in from inside the first "A", then each "A" flashes to white, from the outer to the inner. Then "AMERICAN CINEMA" in white fades in below with the byline "A Division of AMERICAN COMMUNICATIONS INDUSTRIES" in blue below.

Technique: Scanimation.

Audio: Same as the 1st logo.

Availability: It has appeared on a few movies, such as Force Five, Charlie Chan and the Curse of the Dragon Queen, Fade to Black, The Octagon, and Beatlemania: The Movie, among others. This logo was seen on some foreign streaming prints of The Entity (one of the last American Cinema productions distributed by Fox in most territories).
