Background

Warner Bros. Entertainment Italia S.p.A is the Italian branch of Warner Bros. Pictures.

1st Logo (1930s-1956)

Visuals: Same as the 1944 version of the 1937 Warner Bros. Pictures logo, but with "PRESENTA" below.

Technique: A still printed image.

Audio: The opening theme of the movie.

Availability: Seen on Miracle in the Rain.

2nd Logo (August 20, 1952-1960s)

Visuals: Same as the 1948 American counterpart, but "Presenta" is below the logo.

Technique: A still printed image.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen on original Italian prints of The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima..

3rd Logo (April 6, 1960)

Visuals: Same as the Hannibal variant of the Warner Bros. Pictures logo. Over a cyan background is the WB shield in a lighter cyan with a black interior with the usual "WARNER BROS. PICTURES" banner from the American movie logo.

Technique: A still printed image.

Audio: The opening theme of the movie.

Availability: Seen on World by Night.

4th Logo (October 30, 1968)

Visuals: Over a cloudy blue sky background is the Warner Bros. Seven Arts logo in yellow with a drop shadow. Beside the logo is the white text "La" and "WARNER BROS.-SEVEN ARTS presenta", also having a drop shadow.

Technique: A still printed image.

Audio: The opening theme of the movie.

Availability: Seen on The Cats, also known as I bastardi or The Bastards.

5th Logo (1987-January 10, 2003)

Visuals: A close-up shot of the 1984 WB shield is seen, with the banner altered to read "WARNER BROS ITALIA" instead of "WARNER BROS. PICTURES". The camera zooms out revealing a similar background to that of the standard logo and "Distribuzione" or "Presenta" in white fades in below, where the byline should be.

Variants:

  • There is a 2.35:1 scope version of this logo.
  • A closing variant exists on DuckTales: Treasure of the Lost Lamp and Beauty and the Beast (1991), but not every known Disney film that they distributed. Here, a print version of the shield from the opening logo is seen below the text "Distribuito dalla WARNER BROS ITALIA" on a black background.
    • On an Italian print of Heat (1995), the font is different.

Technique: Either camera controlled animation or none.

Audio: Usually silent or the film's opening theme.

Availability: It was seen on WB films released in Italy. Most current releases use U.S domestic prints, so this is long gone for the most part. However, it can still be spotted on some WB Italian productions such as I Mitici. Also appears on Disney films that they released here, such as DuckTales: Treasure of the Lost Lamp and Beauty and the Beast (1991), until their deal with Disney expired.

6th Logo (1999-2000s)

Visuals: Similar to the previous logo, but now in CGI. The shield’s colours have been slightly altered, with the frame and ‘WB’ lettering now orangey-brown and the interior more turquoise than its predecessor. The sky background has also changed to the traditional WB sky and the ‘DISTRIBUZIONE’ text is now the same colour as the shield and gains a bevel around its edges. The entire logo is a static image.

Variant: There is an early version of the logo where the sky backdrop is different with the clouds more reminiscent of cirrus types and the shield is also also further back.

Technique: A still computer graphic.

Audio: Usually, this logo would be silent, or would have the film's opening theme play over it.

Availability:

  • It may have been seen on WB films released in Italy, but many prints that were made after their theatrical release used standard domestic prints.
  • Also, it may have appeared on Italian WB productions, but they were issued on DVD with the standard Warner Bros. logo of the time. The logo has, however, surfaced on a print of Perdutoamor (A Sicilian Dream) on Amazon Prime Video.

Legacy: This logo has been the subject of criticism from a number of logo fans after its discovery.
