Background

This company was founded by Canadian filmmakers Damian Lee and David Mitchell.

1st Logo (May 14, 1986-1987)

Visuals: On a black background, there is a yellow rectangle within a black border. Over the rectangle is the serif "ROSE RUBY" in a stacked format within a stylized ampersand over it. Below is "PRESENTS".

Variant: On Screwball Academy, the logo is inverted, giving it a yellow color and border. "PRESENTS" is absent.

Technique: A still computer graphic.

Audio: None, except Busted Up has background noise from the movie playing over this logo.

Availability: So far, it can be found on Busted Up, Screwball Academy and City of Shadows. However, these films are not available on DVD yet, so look for VHS copies carefully.

2nd Logo (October 1987-1993)

Visuals: The "ROSE & RUBY" text and the white border zoom out by trailing, and settles in. A red rectangle fades behind, along "presents".

Variants: On Abraxas: Guardian of the Universe and Circle Man, this logo has a "Presents" byline, while on Gnaw: Food of the Gods Part II, there is no byline with the logo.

Technique: Scanimation.

Audio: Usually the movie's score. On Gnaw: Food of the Gods Part II and Hot Sneakers, part of Charlie Barnett's score for Circle Man plays over it.

Availability: Can be found on movies such as Abraxas: Guardian of the Universe, Thunderground, Baby on Board, The Miles Ahead (AKA: Hot Sneakers), Gnaw: Food of the Gods Part II, and Circle Man (AKA: Last Man Standing).
