Background

TSG Entertainment Finance LLC (mainly known as TSG Entertainment) is a financing/production company co-owned by The Seelig Group, Bona Film Group and Magnetar Capital, that funds live-action and animated films for 20th Century Studios and Searchlight Pictures (and also later on, Columbia Pictures).

It was founded in 2013, after Dune Entertainment went to Warner Bros. and later rebranded as RatPac Entertainment, after the release of Parental Guidance. Its first production was A Good Day to Die Hard, but didn't have an official logo until late 2013.

Logo (October 5, 2013-)

Visuals: On a black background (possibly a room), a gold colored man (Odysseus), picks up a bow and arrow and shoots it through 12 golden axe heads. The view pulls back to show the words "TSG ENTERTAINMENT" on the side and the logo inside a gold rectangle.

Trivia: The logo makes reference to the challenge proposed by Penelope: she went to the suitors and told them that whoever could string Odysseus's bow and shoot an arrow through 12 axe-handles would marry her. The man uses its bow and shoots the arrow through the axes, so he could marry her.

Variants:

  • On The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (the first film to use this logo), the logo looks more golden.
  • On Logan: Noir Edition and The Greatest Showman, the logo is in black and white. On the latter, the logo is zoomed-in, plays at warp speed and is brighter.
  • Sometimes, the beginning of the logo is brighter, revealing more of the room behind the man. At the end, the interior of the rectangle turns gold.
  • A still version of this logo exists.
  • On 65, after the logo completes, it zooms in and dissolves into stars in space, starting the film. This was done by Filmograph and can be seen on their website.

Technique: CGI by River Road Creative.

Audio: A triumphant sounding fanfare with drums and horns, and the sound of an arrow. Composed by Carlos José Alvarez. Sometimes, it's just the arrow sound or the opening theme of the movie, or both.
