Background

Cartoon Network Originals was a live-action subsidiary of Cartoon Network Movies. It was formed in 2009 and there were only 3 films released from the company; Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins, Ben 10: Alien Swarm and Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster. It was probably discontinued in 2011.

1st Logo (September 13-November 25, 2009)

Visuals: On a black background, a white square pops into the center. Then, it all of a sudden multiplies into several black and white squares, and briefly forms the textless and inverted version of the 1992 Cartoon Network logo before exploding into a whole world of multicolored squares and balls, all stylized, hovering, spinning and moving across a black background. As blue and purple streaks move around, the shapes combine into the 2004 Cartoon Network logo, inverted in colors, and it zooms out as the white text "ORIGINALS" flies out underneath it.

Technique: A great combination of CGI and 2D animation by Spacejunk.

Audio: A series of ascending electronic notes that explodes into a techno tune.

Audio Variants:

  • A prototype version of this logo that was never used featured a wild jazz tune.
  • On Ben 10: Alien Swarm, a dramatic version of the tune is used.

Availability: Seen on TV prints of both Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins and Ben 10: Alien Swarm.

2nd Logo (September 22, 2009)

Visuals: A shortened version of the "Noods" sign-on bumper, used by Cartoon Network from 2008-2010.

Technique: CGI by Capacity.

Audio: The opening theme of the movie.

Availability: Only seen on DVD and Blu-ray prints of Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins.

3rd Logo (October 16, 2010)

Visuals: The screen cuts to the 1992-2004 Cartoon Network logo with the letters replaced by pictures of various random things. The images flip and slide around as the camera focuses on a picture of some lips, then a lightbulb, then a filmstrip, and then some headphones. Then the camera goes to focus on a picture of nunchuks. Then the screen zooms out to reveal the entire checkerboard, with all the blocks flipping around. Then, the checkerboard folds into the current Cartoon Network logo. "ORIGINAL" in one of the current Cartoon Network fonts slides in from both directions (half of the word slides to the left, the other slides to the right).

Technique: CGI by Brand New School.

Audio: The opening theme of the movie.

Availability: Seen only on Scooby-Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster.
