Background

Momentum Pictures was originally formed in 1996 as a British distribution company owned by Alliance Communications (and later, Alliance Atlantis and Alliance Films). The company quickly became known as one of the leading film distributors in the UK. In 2013, the company was folded into Entertainment One after their acquisition of Alliance, but in September 2015, it was relaunched as part of a venture between eOne and Orion Pictures. However, the company was reabsorbed again by Entertainment One in 2023.

1st Logo (2000-2007)

Visuals: Over a blue background, there are some many blurred blue/white shapes flying in from many directions, with occasional searchlights shining around them. Many of them have the blurred blue text "momentum" on them. Then, two rectangles, one a blue-outlined white one with "momentum" inside it, and a blue one with the 3D text "PICTURES" at the bottom of it, come in and join together.

Variant: A filmed version of the logo exists.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Various whooshes, with a bang as the logo is formed.

Audio Variant: On Bratz: The Movie on Netflix UK (only when using the Xbox One app), the 2007 music from the next logo is used and is also low pitched, due to a reverse plastering error.

Availability:

  • Seen on older British prints of movies on VHS and DVD.
  • It is also seen on the 2002 UK VHS release of the 2001 TV movie The Santa Claus Brothers, the 2003 UK VHS releases of So Smart: Colours and So Smart: Letters, and the 2004 UK VHS release of Watch My Chops: Stroke of Genius, Aardman Classics, respectively, among others.

2nd Logo (January 5, 2007-2012)

Visuals: On a light navy blue background with some particles in the distance, multiple bluish white arcs quickly cross the screen, eventually rotating and zooming out into the white word "momentum", with "PICTURES" below it in blue. They are both in the same font as the last logo.

Variant: On UK prints of The Mechanic (except on home video), the logo is shortened to the last few seconds and appears superimposed on a black background next to the Lionsgate logo (also shortened to the last seconds).

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A dreamy synth background with whirring as the arcs spin around and clinking sound effects as the text appears. Composed by Jeff Toyne.

Availability: Seen on UK-released movies from the time, starting with Miss Potter.

3rd Logo (2012-2013)

Visuals: Over a black background, there is the Momentum logo, still in the same design as before but now in chrome, rotate in letter-by-letter. As the logo slowly eases to the right, the byline "an alliance films company" fades in underneath the finished product.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: The last part of the last logo's theme.

Availability: Seen on post-2012 UK-released movies before the company shut down a year later.

4th Logo (April 17, 2015-June 9, 2023)

Visuals: On a black background with a spotlight of gold, there is a silver block line on the bottom which turns around to reveal the rectangle. Then, the word "momentum" draws itself, now being in a different font with the two lines on the two letter "m"'s connected to the rectangle and the word "PICTURES" in spaced out letters also drawing underneath the word above. Then it gets flashed by a blue light as the rectangle with the text zooms out a bit, afterwards the byline for Entertainment One appears below the logo.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Some whooshing-like sounds with a clank sound ending with a wind like sound.

Availability: Seen on its films starting in 2015 with The Wannabe.
