Background

Blumhouse Productions (formerly Blum Israel Productions from 2000 to 2002, referring to when Amy Israel co-founded the company) is the production company of producer Jason Blum, founded in 2000. On November 16, 2022, it was announced that the company was in advanced talks for merger with Atomic Monster Productions, which finalized on January 2, 2024.

1st Logo (August 3, 2012-)

Visuals: The sequence starts the logo at a wooden floor. We then rise up and see a chair floating along with a door open to reveal a green light. As the camera turns, the door slams shut (a la the Ghost House Pictures logo), there is a floating book, and a little girl bearing a strong resemblance to Kayako Saeki's ghost from The Grudge appears. Then we turn to the ceiling when it starts to crack. The crack stops by a lightbulb that's hanging from the ceiling. Along with that, the company name fades in on the wall. The "H" in "BLUMHOUSE" is also in an actual house shape.

Trivia: This logo features references to Takashi Shimizu's The Grudge (2004) and Oren Peli's Paranormal Activity (2007). Some of the sound effects in this logo, such as the panting, were reused for the video games Five Nights at Freddy's 3 and 4; coincidentally, the company produced the Five Nights at Freddy's feature film.

Variants:

  • On non-horror films from the company (with the exception of Best Night Ever), we simply pan up from the floor as the lightbulb turns on and brightens up the logo. The logo also looks less grungy and more yellow.
  • On some films, "BLUMHOUSE" is replaced with "BH" inside the house shape.
  • A still version exists.
  • An in-credit variant can be found on Hellevator.
  • There's a variant in which the "BH" horror variant animates like the non-horror variant and "INTERNATIONAL" replaces "PRODUCTIONS".

Audio: Dramatic sound effects correlating to the actions on-screen, along with a door slamming sound, book pages turning, screaming, a girl making sounds, a person panting throughout, and heartbeats that go faster. A note is heard at the end that grows heavier until it cuts off. Composed by Amir Salem.

Audio Variants:

  • Sometimes, the opening theme of the movie plays instead.
  • The non-horror version just has a sound effect of the lightbulb turning on.

Availability:

  • Debuted on The Babymakers, and can be seen on most films produced by the company such as The Purge and Insidious series, Get Out, Halloween (2018) and Happy Death Day.
  • Also seen at the end of Ouija, Ouija: Origin of Evil, and Unfriended.
  • The non-horror version can be found on movies such as Stretch, Whiplash, The Gift, Jem and the Holograms, BlacKkKlansman, Split, Glass, and This Is The Night.
  • Strangely, this logo does not appear on any of the Paranormal Activity films.
  • With a new logo being introduced on The Black Phone, this logo's days are numbered, although the non-horror version was later seen on Vengeance. It's possible that the non-horror version will remain as an on-screen logo.

2nd Logo (September 25, 2021-)


Visuals: The sequence starts in a dark forest with a pig and Michael Myers from Halloween seen in the distance as the camera pulls back into a window, featuring a teacup on the sill and a chair with a cowboy hat on it (and a lightbulb above). The zoom continues on to show a hallway with two masked girls holding hands (both respectively wearing a Statue of Liberty and a bunny mask), and a further zoom back into a small living room with a chair and a coffee table, a red cup, a comb, a gift, a dagger, a cupcake and a phone on it. Then the screen zooms back into a dark area with a door and some drips leaking out, with the Lipstick-Face Demon, followed by two other dark rooms, the former in a bedroom with a camera inside (with a picture of Bughuul from Sinister on a wall) and the latter with an old chair in it (a reversed reference to the previous logo). It then zooms out to reveal that we were inside a floating house the entire time, as it zooms out of a window with a teal glowing light while the camera turns to reveal the wordmark from before (a la the 1994 New Line Cinema logo and 2016 The CW ident), now in CGI as the window lights go out to reveal the "H" glowing, with a bright light in said color seen shining behind the logo in the midst of the extreme darkness, much like that of the previous logo, before fading out.

Trivia:

  • According to Jason Blum, the logo is a fun tribute to their films and television series, and he's curious to see if their fans can spot all the hidden symbols they've included throughout. This logo was done by design studio Elastic by creative directors Neil Kellerhouse and Duncan Elms, in conjunction with Blumhouse CMO Karen Barragan.
  • The various Blumhouse/horror references in the logo are as follow:
    • The pig from The Hunt
    • Michael Myers from the Halloween franchise.
    • The teacup from Get Out, and the cowboy hat from The Good Lord Bird.
    • The lightbulb refers to a previous logo.
    • Two masked girls from The Purge films. The left one is from The Purge: Election Year, and the right one is from The Forever Purge.
    • Left-to right: The chair from Glass, the red cup from Ma, the titular present from The Gift, the comb from BlacKkKlansman, the cupcake from Happy Death Day and its sequel, the La Dola Dagger from Freaky, and the titular item from The Black Phone.
    • The leaking bathtub from the Into the Dark episode "Tentacles", the titular character's hand from Jessabelle, and the sink from Ouija.
    • The Lipstick-Face Demon from the Insidious series, and the Pooka toy from the Into the Dark episodes "Pooka!" and "Pooka Lives!".
    • Bughuul's face on the wall from the Sinister series, the drum from Whiplash, the axe from The Visit, and the camera from the Paranormal Activity franchise.
    • The TV from The Gallows, it's also a homage to the Poltergeist horror film.
    • The red door (which serves as the entrance to the Further) from the Insidious series.

Variants:

  • There are three versions of this logo:
    • A version with the company's full name.
    • A version without "PRODUCTIONS". This is the most common of the three.
    • A version where, much like the previous logo, the "BLUMHOUSE" text is replaced with "BH" inside the house shape.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Creepy sound effects with gears turning and some monster-like growling sounds during the first half, with two whoosh sounds heard when the wordmark is revealed. Composed by The Hit House. Otherwise, it's the opening theme of the film.

Availability:

  • Debuted on The Black Phone and later appeared on They/Them, Halloween Ends, Soft & Quiet, M3GAN, Sick, Insidious: The Red Door, The Exorcist: Believer, Five Nights at Freddy's, during a Halloween episode of Shark Tank (In which Jason Blum himself appears as a guest Shark), and Night Swim.
  • This plasters the previous logo on Amazon Prime prints of Run Sweetheart Run.
