Blinding Edge Pictures

Background

Blinding Edge Pictures is the production company of writer and director M. Night Shyamalan.

1st Logo (November 22, 2000)

Visuals: There is a profile of a flying man zooming out to the sun. There the sun forms a rectangle, saving lens flare outside. The profile of the flying man is now seen over the rectangle, and below BLINDING EDGE PICTURES is written in italics. The whole logo is tinted in light blue.

Technique: 2D computer animation.

Audio: None.

Availability: Seen only on Unbreakable.

2nd Logo (August 2, 2002-June 4, 2015)

Visuals: On a dirty brown background, the profile from before is seen with light shining through it repeatedly. The light then stays as the company name in a normal font fades in below the profile.

Trivia: This logo was designed by Shine Studios, who also created the 1999 Harpo Films and the 2012 MGM logos. The video of it can be seen here. Curiously, the logo is also on Picturemill's Vimeo page, indicating that they were involved in production as well.

Variant: There is a variant with the man moving on a zoetrope, before reaching the sun and the rest of the logo animates normally.

Technique: Computer animation.

Audio: None, or the opening theme of the movie.

Availability: Seen on every film by M. Night Shyamalan from Signs to After Earth. Also seen on the first four episodes of season 1 of Wayward Pines.

3rd Logo (June 11-July 23, 2015)

Visuals: There is a man in a hat and trenchcoat with his back to the camera facing a giant orange circle and multiple lens flares and circular rainbows. On the bottom half of the screen, there's a plain black background with the text "BLINDING EDGE PICTURES".

Technique: A still, digital graphic.

Audio: The closing theme.

Availability: Seen on Wayward Pines starting from season 1, episode 5 up until the series' end.

4th Logo (September 11, 2015-)

Visuals: There is a black eagle flying away from the camera in some sort of fog. Then we see a nude woman with a mask on in the background. The eagle flies towards the woman and stops when it reaches her chest, revealing BLINDING EDGE PICTURES below. The woman then grabs the eagle. The whole logo is tinted brown.

Trivia: The logo is based on Enigma, a painting by Julio Reyes in 2014. M. Night Shyamalan purchased the painting in 2015, and later purchased the rights on the painting, for the uses as the main icon on the logo.

Technique: Surreal, painting-like animation, designed by Filmograph.

Audio: None, or the opening theme of the movie.

Availability: It debuted on The Visit and has been seen on every film produced by the company since. Also seen on Servant on Apple TV+.
