Background

Ghost Corps was founded within Sony Pictures Entertainment in March 2015 as a brand of Columbia Pictures to oversee the Ghostbusters franchise. Among its founders are Ivan Reitman (director of the original 1984 film) and Dan Aykroyd (who plays the Ghostbusters member Ray Stantz and co-wrote the first two films).

Logo (July 15, 2016-)

Visuals: On an animated dark thunderstorm, the words "GHOST CORPS" (consists of the words, with "GH ST" in white & "CORPS" in red with the red "No" symbol as the "O" in "GHOST", both in Brandon Grotesque, stacked together in a style of the opening title of the 1984 original, Ghostbusters) are revealed by zooming forward. The traditionally animated ghost (Mooglie) flies in from the left and moves to the symbol, which becomes the Ghostbusters symbol. The byline "A COLUMBIA PICTURES COMPANY" (in the same font and length of the logo) fades in underneath it.

Variants:

  • An unused version exists where the ghost trap opens the letters and a ghost, then the proton pack's lasers to zap the letters for the finished product.
  • On Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the logo is superimposed in a different thunderstorm, that was carried from the preceding BRON logo. Also, the font of "GHOST" has been changed to match the original Ghostbusters logo, and the byline is more readable. After a few seconds, it fades into the opening.

Technique: CGI for the thunderstorm and bolts and traditional animation for the ghost. The 2021 version was done by Filmograph and Smith & Lee.

Audio: The opening theme of the movie or none.

Availability: It first appeared on the 2016 Ghostbusters film (a.k.a. Ghostbusters: Answer the Call) and later appeared again on Ghostbusters: Afterlife. It also appears on Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered on Nintendo Switch and Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed.
