Background

989 Sports was the sports label of 989 Studios (the former American branch of Sony Computer Entertainment) that was used on sports titles for PlayStation systems like the NFL GameDay series, the NBA ShootOut series, the NHL FaceOff series, and other sports titles. In 2006, it was folded into Sony Computer Entertainment of America. Since then, the SCEA label is now used on future sports titles like the MLB: The Show series.
