1st Logo (1981-1988)

Visuals: On a black background, a red star forms up the neon text "THE MOVIE STORE" with "THE" smaller than the other words. The star then draws a rounded rectangle border to surround the text, followed by a underline formed by 2 stars. The logo shines a bit as well.

Variants:

  • On some films, such as Free Ride and Meatballs III: Summer Job, the logo appears on a more bluish background.
  • On the trailer for Into the Fire, it skips the forming of the logo.

Technique: Motion-controlled animation.

Audio: A synth chord with clicks, scritch-scratching noises, and a menacing-sounding orchestral portion.

A triangle, in either of the aforementioned colors, comes down onto the box and shines the lines of the previous box as a purple streak wipes in "E N T E R T A I N M E N T" in the same colors as mentioned before. The triangle happens to become segmented and dual-toned.
