Background

Hamdon Entertainment was the new name for the first incarnation of World International Network, after it was bought out by its last two international partners (Carlton Communications, who inherited Central Television's share, and ARD, Germany's public broadcaster) in late 1995. In September 1999, Carlton acquired ARD's share in Hamdon Entertainment and renamed the company as Carlton America, becoming the linchpin of Carlton’s TV production activities throughout North America.

1st Logo (1995-1996)

Visuals: On a light gray background, the text "HAMDON entertainment", set in a serif font and colored black, with "entertainment" smaller than and placed underneath "HAMDON", is seen superimposed over an illustration of a filmstrip colored in a slightly darker shade of gray than the background.

Technique: A still, computerized graphic.

Audio: None, or a CBS generic theme on original airings.

Availability: It was seen on TV movies from the early '90s, most likely plastering the original WIN logo.

2nd Logo (September 29, 1996-1998)

Visuals: On a black/perwinkle cloudy background, there is a silver bar at a tilted angle with "LONDON" and "HAMBURG" on the top and the front, respectively. As the screen zooms out to face the front of the bar, a green laser beam cuts the bar into half, causing the right part to turn downwards to make "HAMDON" as the background turns black. The bar then fades out and "entertainment" below and the filmstrip (with a slight waving) from the last logo with a blue light behind fade in, forming a finished product similar to the last logo.

Variant: A short version exists, starting from the filmstrip appearing.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: An abridged version of the next logo's theme, or none.

Audio Variants:

  • Lifetime's print of When He Didn't Come Home (1998) has the Tribune Entertainment theme playing, trailing into said company's logo.
  • Original airings on CBS/NBC/ABC used the network's respective generic themes.

Availability: It was seen on a handful of TV movies, such as A Father for Brittany, For My Daughter Honor and When He Didn't Come Home (1998).

3rd Logo (1998-1999)

Visuals: Same as the last logo, but when the logo is almost formed, the screen zooms out and tilt to the right to reveal that the logo is on the filmstrip part of a stylized "H" against a blue background with multiple copies of the same "H". The words "HAMDON ENTERTAINMENT" fade in below, while a blue light shines behind the "H".

Variant: There are various short versions, the most common one being the last few seconds of the finished product.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A synth and trumpet tune with a laser burning sound. CBS/NBC/ABC airings used their generic themes.

Availability: It was seen on TV movies from the late '90s and reprints of old World International Network productions.
