Background

This is the production company of ITV Border, formerly Border Productions.

1st Logo (1961-September 1, 1971)

Visuals: Same as the 1961 ident.

Variant: Sometimes, the text says "A Border Television Network Production" below the logo.

Technique: A still, hand-drawn graphic.

Audio: None or the ending theme of the programme.

Availability: Seen on programmes by Border from the time-period until 1971. [Examples?]

2nd Logo (September 1, 1971-September 1, 1989)

Visuals: Same as the 1970 ident. Usually, a copyright notice is added underneath.

Variants:

  • A network production variant exists.
  • On A Tale of Two Dales, the NRK logo appears below the Border Television logo.
  • On The Living Wall, a co-production variant with Tyne Tees Television exists. The Border Television logo is also gold.
  • On Highway, the logo is paired with six other ITV franchise logos on a blue background. Border's logo appears on the bottom right.

Audio: The ending theme of the programme or none.

Availability: Seen on programmes by Border from the time-period until 1989.

  • Border Television has a low output of original programming which are hard to find outside of original TV airings.
  • Examples include Groovy Fellers, A Tale of Two Dales, Mr & Mrs, and later episodes of Get Fresh.
    • However, early episodes of the latter used the 1970 HTV logo.
  • The opening variant of this logo was used on all networked programmes by Border until ITV abolished frontcaps starting on January 1, 1988.

3rd Logo (September 1, 1989-September 1994)

Visuals: On a blue background, the 1989 bowl symbol is displayed above the text "A BORDER PRODUCTION" and a copyright notice on the bottom.

Variants:

  • The 1989 ITV logo also appears below the Border text on some networked programmes.
  • Sometimes, a copyright notice reading "© Border Television plc (year in Roman numerals)" appears either below the Border text or the 1989 ITV logo.
  • On Scottish Eye, the logo appears on a white background and is paired with the Red Herring Productions logo. The text is also reworded to "A Red Herring & Border Television Production for Channel Four" with the copyright notice appearing below.
  • On a 1991 Children's ITV airing of an unknown programme, the text below the logo reads "BORDER TELEVISION IN ASSOCIATION WITH" with the RTVE logo, "For", and the 1989 ITV logo all appearing below.
  • On a 1994 airing of an unknown programme, the text below the logo reads "A Border Television Presentation for ITV" (albeit with ITV not in its form of the 1989 logo).

  • Examples include That's History, among others.
  • The standard logo's appearance is unknown, but the variant can be found on Scottish Eye.

4th Logo (September 1994-November 7, 1999)

Visuals: This is a still version of the 1995 variant of the 1994 ident with the text reading "A BORDER PRODUCTION", "A BORDER PRESENTATION", or "A BORDER PROGRAMME".

Variants:

  • In its early days, the logo is on a rocky background.
  • The 1989 ITV logo is also shown below the Border text on networked programmes. This lasted until October 4, 1998.

Availability: Seen on programmes by Border from the time-period until 1999.

  • Examples include Inside Sellafield and other original programmes from this period.

5th Logo (November 8, 1999-2001)

Visuals: This is a still version of the 1999 ident, but except, the yellow text is added, reading "A" and "PRODUCTION" below the logo, respectively.

Variant: When ITV was changed to ITV1 in 2001, the text now appears below directly reading "A BORDER PRODUCTION".

Audio: The ending theme of the programme or none.

Availability: Seen on most Border programmes of the time, like Lookaround.

6th Logo (2001-October 31, 2004)

Visuals: The same Granada purple end card with the corporate logo used by all other Granada-owned regions is shown, however, the shadow copies are of the Border "Chopsticks in a Bowl" symbol, and the square has the white Border "Chopsticks in a Bowl" logo inside with the text reads "A Border Television Production".

Availability: Seen on programmes by Border from the time-period until 2004.
