Film Business International

Background

Film Business International was a Hong Kong film distribution/production company, founded in 1997 by Manfred Wong, a radio personality, film producer, screenwriter, film director and actor.

Logo (November 6, 1997-March 17, 2007)

Visuals: On a black background, a glassy brown circle is seen taking up the whole screen, slowly zooming out. The camera then zooms out to reveal that it was actually the lens of a black film camera with an abstract-looking body, with a large red record button on the side, and it rotates to the left. The background is also revealed to be a dark grey background with white polka-dots focusing in and out of view. As the body of the film camera swings into full view, the spools start to spin and the record button lights up, before gold outlines start to outline the body, as well as the large gap, as the diagonally-set letters "FBi". The camera eventually stops moving about and then zooms out, with the gold outlines progressively getting faster as the background gains a heavy blue tint and the rest of the camera fades away. Below, the English/Cantonese text "Film Business International Limited" and "友情歲月影視集團有限公司", both in white, blur in and zoom out below, and the "FBi" turns a metallic color, with the "i" being made of translucent red and gold blocks. The background continues to move until the logo cuts out.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: An orchestral hit that fades to a descending whirring sound, followed by a short hip hop-esque synth beat. An ascending 5-note tune (which is based off of the theme tune to the 1996 film Young and Dangerous, composed by Clarence Hui) is heard when the gold outlines appear, which is replaced by a synth warble, and then it ends with a windy sound, descending in tone.

Availability: It was seen on Those Were the Days, Un Baiser Vole, For Bad Boys Only, Roots and Branches and Lethal Angels. Probably first appeared on the 1997 film Erotic Ghost Story: Perfect Match.
