1st Logo (April 10, 2007-September 30, 2010) | 2nd Logo (Early 2010) | 3rd Logo (March 26, 2010) | 4th Logo (August 14, 2013-May 22, 2019) | 5th Logo (August 26, 2021-) |
1st Logo (April 10, 2007-September 30, 2010)
Visuals: On a plain white or white/mahogany-shaded background, the word "M A R V" fades in and slowly zooms in.
Technique: Very simple animation.
Audio: The opening theme of the movie.
Availability: Seen on Stardust and The Debt. Also appears on the trailer for Kick-Ass, though the 3rd logo appears on it instead. It doesn't appear on Harry Brown and Layer Cake.
2nd Logo (Early 2010)
Visuals: Same as the complete logo for Lionsgate, but the word "LIONSGATE" is replaced with "M A R V" in spaced-out letters.
Technique: CGI by Devastudios, like the Lionsgate logo. However, it's a still image.
Audio: None.
Availability: Can only be found on some trailers for Kick-Ass, following the Lionsgate logo.
3rd Logo (March 26, 2010)
Visuals: On a sky blue background is "M A R V", in a childish font, quickly fading in letter by letter. Clouds appear behind the logo, and it slowly fades out to start the movie.
Technique: 2D animation.
Audio: The opening theme of the movie.
Availability: Only found on Kick-Ass.
4th Logo (August 14, 2013-May 22, 2019)
Visuals: A green line draws across the screen and a rounded landscape (reminiscent of 80s video games like Battlezone) appears. The camera then shifts upwards into the sky, flying through a starscape where the stars stick to the screen until it is completely covered up, forming an Ishihara plate reading "MARV".
Trivia: The logo being an Ishihara plate is a deliberate ironic in-joke; Matthew Vaughn is colorblind.
Variant: A version of this logo exists in gold and with "MARV" in 3D letters in the same font as the first logo. This is only seen on one official trailer for The King's Man.
Technique: All CGI.
Audio: The opening theme of the movie.
Audio Variant: On Eddie the Eagle, a synth-chiptune theme is heard.
Availability: It debuted on Kick-Ass 2 and can be seen on newer movies from Marv Films. It doesn't appear on 2015's Fantastic Four. Its last movie appearance was on Rocketman.
5th Logo (August 26, 2021-)
Visuals: On a black background with a spotlight, two dice fly in from the left side of the screen. The logo slows down as we see the letter "M" made out of dots on one of the dice. The camera rotates to the other side, revealing an "A". The dice then bounce off the dark brown floor, showing the "R" and the "V" on the second die. The dice then tumble and come to a stop with just one corner each touching the floor, and form "MARV", turning slowly until the logo cuts to black.
Trivia: The logo is designed around the concept of "beating the odds". The final decision on whether to use the new logo was decided by rolling a pair of dice, which was finalized by a roll of double sixes.
Variants:
- Starting with the trailer for Tetris (and the final film), the dice are thrown on a backgammon board.
- At the end of Argylle, the print logo is seen.
Technique: CGI done by AKQA. Some concept designs can be found here.
Audio: Sounds of dice shaking in a cup, then a five-note synth choir theme together with the sounds of the dice rolling, or the opening theme of the movie.
Availability: It debuted on the Red Band trailer for The King's Man. It made its first full appearance on Silent Night (2021), and also appears on Tetris and Argylle.
