Background
TBS Animation is the brand used for the distribution of anime shows that aired on Tokyo Broadcasting System.
1st Logo (2000-2003?, 2004)
Visuals: On a white background, the large hand of a person tinted in yellow quickly appears touching the bottom. It then moves up and does a grabbing position with the thumb and middle fingers, while a yellow smoke trail appears moving to the sides around the center. The head of the red TBS mascot appears in-between the fingers, with the hand holding the antenna. The hand shakes, with the mascot's head being rung with black circle outlines appearing growing out. Meanwhile, the smoke trail is revealed to be coming out from the mascot's body, shown far away without the head. The body looks at the hand holding the head and runs away, leaving another smoke trail. The hand then disappears, and the mascot's head floats to the left. The body then quickly appears running to assemble with the head, and a magenta burst is shown. The mascot jumps from joy, and then dances around near the right side of the screen, while the outlined blue letters of "TBS" and "animation" - with "TBS" in the trademark font of the time - appear moving at the left, with the bottom text moving up and down while the letters of the TBS logo come out in a bouncing fashion. The mascot finishes dancing while a shadow appears growing out behind the letters. Eyes appear growing out from the mascot's head, while it faces the camera as it begins to do its trademark pose, with the right eye winking a bit.
Technique: Traditional animation.
Audio: A free jazz saxophone, with a loud note once the hand appears, a high note when the mascot's head is rung, and random notes when the logo forms.
Availability: Seen on Japanese DVDs of TBS anime series. In the United States, this appears on the 2004 DVD of GetBackers: Complete Season One.
2nd Logo (2022-)
Visuals: On a white background, a blue diagonal line draws in, and as it wipes out, the shiny "TBS" logo rotates in at the center. The logo turns plain and moves up, with the text "Animation" fading in below, with the letters separating a bit.
Technique: CGI.
Audio: None.
Availability: Seen on DVDs and Blu-rays of TBS anime series in Japan, such as Machikado Mazoku.
