Background

Normally on VHS or DVD releases, Nickelodeon will typically replace their normal TV logo with a still screenshot of one of their ID's used at the time. This page features logos exclusively seen on these releases, as well as ones exclusively seen on home media or have also been used as a Nickelodeon Productions logo.

1st Logo (August 31, 1993-September 8, 2009)

Visuals: On a black background is different shapes (see the versions below) with the Nickelodeon text inside. Every version has at the bottom of the screen copyright information saying: "(C) (year) Viacom International Inc. All rights reserved. Nickelodeon, (NAME OF SHOW), and all related titles, logos, and characters are trademarks of Viacom International Inc.".

"Weird" Splat: Over a black background, there is a weird-looking 2D Nickelodeon splat logo, which looks like it's been jabbed by a bone several times.
Haypile: Same as the Nickelodeon "Haypile" logo.
Heart: There is an orange heart-shaped Nickelodeon logo zoom to the screen before quickly zooming close-up before going to its standard place.
Scribble: Over a black background, there is an orange scribble (that also looks somewhat like a firework explosion) with the Nickelodeon text inside it.
Bat: On a black background, there is an orange bat with the Nickelodeon text on the front. Copyright info is underneath.
Holly: On a black background, a holly-shaped Nickelodeon logo is seen, with the text on the top leaf.
Reindeer: Over a black background, a reindeer-shaped Nickelodeon logo is seen in a sprinting pose, with light rays coming from its nose.
Turkey: On a black background, a turkey-shaped Nickelodeon logo is seen. The "NICKELODEON" text appears "inflated".
"Stretched" Splat: On a black background, there is a stretched orange splat (that looks similar to an ink blotch) that has the words "NICKELODEON" in white on it.
"Realistic" Splat: On a black background, there is a pretty realistic orange splat with the white Nickelodeon wordmark on it.
"Regular" Splat: On a black background, there is the regular orange Nickelodeon splat.

Variants:

On the few initial run of Sony Wonder titles, the "Weird Splat" or "Haypile" would feature a copyright notice with the VHS release's name on it.
A variant exists without copyright info at all on the VHS version of Oswald On The Go (2004). This may be because the HIT Entertainment logo that preceded it (and 3 Nick Jr. logos/bumpers) already had copyright info, so it would be meaningless to have it appear twice. Despite that, the DVD release does contain copyright info.
On the second episode of each tape in The Wild Thornberrys: Adventures Down Under two-tape set by National Geographic, the logo cuts in and out instead of fading, and stays onscreen for a full minute (this includes the quote at the beginning of the logo) before cutting to black.

Audio:

For "Weird" Splat, Scribble, "Stretched" Splat, "Realistic" Splat and "Regular" Splat: None.
For Haypile: None or the end theme of the show.
For Heart: A smooching sound.
For Bat, Holly and Reindeer: The end theme to the show.
Turkey: A snippet from the titular "A Rugrats Thanksgiving" special (Stu Pickles makes a turkey gobbling sound, followed by Grandpa Boris yelling to him "Enough with the gobble already!").

Audio Variants:

On both the Volume 1 & Volume 2 DVDs of The Amanda Show, the audio from the Nickelodeon Productions Lightbulb is used on the Haypile.
VideoNow Color releases of All Grown Up have the tail end of the 3rd Klasky Csupo logo on the Haypile.

Availability: Depends on the variant, but a majority of these variants have only appeared on one release:

Weird Splat:
- It appears on the first two Rugrats VHS releases - "Tales from the Crib", and "A Baby's Gotta Do What A Baby's Gotta Do" (which also count as the first ever Nicktoons VHS releases), as well as "Chuckie the Brave" (Only on the Sony Wonder prints, the Paramount reissues plaster this logo with the "Slime")
- It also appears on the first two Doug tapes - "How Did I Get into This Mess" and "Patti, You're the Mayonnaise For Me", however, these were never re-released.
Haypile:
- It originally appears at the end of Ren & Stimpy releases from Sony Wonder. May have appeared on other releases at the time as well.
- By 2000, it had appeared at the end on pretty much all Nickelodeon VHS's and DVDs from 2000 until 2009 (with the exception of a few Nick Jr. tapes from that time, which used the "Bone", Little Bear: Let's Play a Game, which used the "Flower", and Little Bear: Little Sherlock Bear, which used the Shark, before switching to this one).
- Examples include Season 1 of The Adventures of Pete & Pete and all SpongeBob SquarePants DVDs from 2003 to 2009, along with several Nick Jr. shows.
- This logo also appears on DVD releases of Avatar: The Last Airbender and VideoNow Color releases of All Grown Up.
- The 2009 DVD of True Jackson, VP: Season 1, Volume 1 is one of the last releases to use the logo.
Heart: Only appears on the Sony Wonder release of Nickelodeon Mushfest, to which the logo also appeared as a sting throughout the tape. Also used as a network ID.
Scribble: Only appears on the Sony Wonder release of Rugrats: Angelica the Divine. The Paramount re-release of the tape plasters this logo with the "Slime".
Bat: Only appears on the Sony Wonder release Nickelodeon Fright-fest. Also used as a network ID.
Holly: Only appears on the Sony Wonder release of Doug's Christmas Story. The Paramount reissue replaces this logo with the 3D Nick Lightbulb.
Reindeer: It's only seen at the end of the VHS release of Hey Arnold: Arnold's Christmas.
Turkey: It's only seen on the VHS release of A Rugrats Thanksgiving.
"Stretched" Splat: Only seen on the previews on the SpongeBob SquarePants DVD Tales From The Deep.
"Realistic" Splat: Only seen on a Kideo VHS release of the Dora the Explorer episode "Whose Birthday Is It?".
"Regular" Splat: Only seen on the Ni Hao, Kai-Lan DVD Celebrate with Kai-Lan.

2nd Logo (October 1, 1996-September 24, 2002)

Visuals: Same as the previous logo, but this time there's a 3D shape. Copyright info is below all variations.

Slime: On a black background, an orange slime 3D Nickelodeon logo (which looks more like a cloud) is seen. Copyright info is seen below or sometimes not at all.
Flower: On a black background, a flower-shaped 3D Nickelodeon logo is seen. Copyright info is below.
Jack: Same as the second version of the Nickelodeon Productions "Jack" logo, but it is a still picture, and copyright information appears below the Jack.
Balloon: Same as the Nickelodeon Productions "Balloon" logo, but it is a still picture.
Fish: On a black background, a 3D fish-shaped Nickelodeon logo is seen. Blue bubbles are seen are also seen coming out of the fish. Copyright info is below.
Top: On a black background, a top-shaped 3D Nickelodeon logo is seen. Copyright info is seen below.
Slug: On a black background, there is an orange 3D slug crawling up and down through unseen holes. It moves to the right of the screen to reveal the Nickelodeon logo on it. The copyright info is below it.
Eye: On a black background, there is a 3D orange eye with "NICK" inside the pupil. The copyright info is below it.
Robot: On a black background, a robot-shaped 3D Nick logo is seen. Copyright info is seen below.
Lightbulb: There is an orange 3D lightbulb with "NICK" written on it. Copyright info is shown below.
UFO: On a black background, a UFO-shaped Nickelodeon logo flies around and lands with 4 planets spinning. Copyright info is seen below.
Christmas Tree: Over a black background, there is a 3D Nickelodeon logo in the shape of a Christmas tree. Copyright info is shown below.
Heart and Arrow: Over a black background, there is a 3D heart-shaped Nickelodeon logo with an arrow through the heart. Copyright info is below.
Leaf: On a black background, a 3D maple leaf-shaped Nickelodeon logo is seen. Copyright info is below.

Saturn: A still version of the Nickelodeon Productions Saturn logo, but without "PRODUCTIONS" and has copyright info below it.
Cup: Same as the Nickelodeon Productions cup logo, but it's a still picture.
Crayon: On a black background, a crayon-shaped 3D Nickelodeon logo is seen. Copyright info is seen below.
Shark: On a black background, an orange 3D shark swims across the screen. As it stops in the middle is the familiar "NICKELODEON" text on it, and copyright info fades in below.

Trivia:

Slime: On the YouTube channel Smosh Games, an Honest Trailer (which is a parody) for Splatoon featured this logo, mentioned as an inspiration for the game.
Lightbulb: This logo was used as the icon for the PC game Nickelodeon 3-D Movie Maker.
Saturn: This logo may be a nod to the T-shirt worn by Rugrats character Chuckie Finster, which has the planet Saturn on it, although this logo never appeared on any Rugrats episode, or VHS/DVD release of the show.

Variants:

Slime:
- There's an animated variant in which the slime is shown spinning while zooming up to the front of the screen.
- Another animated variant has the logo suddenly jerk a bit.
Flower:
- - There is an animated version where the flower zooms in, on top of the copyright info. This can be seen on the Little Bear tape Family Tales.
  - There's another animated version where the flower is seen blooming above the copyright info.
Leaf:
- The leaf may be tilted at a different angle.
Bone:
- There is an animated variant in which the bone spins to the center of the screen for a second, and then it stays still.

Slime/Flower/Bone/Eye: CGI for the animated variants, otherwise a still render.
Jack/Balloon/Fish/Top/Robot/Lightbulb/Christmas Tree/Heart and Arrow/Leaf/Rocket/Crown/Cup/Crayon: A still CGI render.
Slug/UFO/Shark: CGI.

Audio:

Slime: None, except for the second variant, which has a suction cup sound.
Flower: The ending theme to the show or none.
- Rugrats: Mommy Mania has a quote from one of the preceding episodes on the tape (Tommy: "Bye, Chuckie--I mean, Blaine.").
- The second animated variant has an oinking sound as the logo animates.
Jack/Balloon/Fish: None.
Top: None, apart from the snippet as seen on the Lightbulb logo below on A Rugrats Chanukah.
Slug: A snippet from one of the episodes for Aaahh!! Real Monsters: Meet the Monsters, elsewise the end theme to the show.
Eye: None or in the case of 2000 airings of The Secret World of Alex Mack, the ending theme of the show.
Robot/UFO/Christmas Tree/Heart and Arrow: The end theme to the show.
Lightbulb: The end theme for the show.
- As for A Rugrats Chanukah, it's a snippet from Angelica (voiced by Cheryl Chase) from the preceding episode ("Dumb babies! Those are for...Chanukah!").
Leaf: None.
- On Rugrats: Playground Patrol, it has a snippet from the episode "Officer Chuckie" (Officer Dan: "Never pet a dog that's strange to you." Chuckie: "You might get something on your shoe!").
Bone/Saturn: None or the ending theme to the show.
Rocket: The end theme to the show or none.
- On Rugrats: Runaway Reptar, there is a quote from Lil (voiced by Kath Soucie) from the titular episode ("How's come Dactar did not eat you like a...a big BUG?!").
- On March-August 2000 airings of SpongeBob SquarePants with split-screen credits, the logo either has the show's ending theme or with the show's ending theme accompanied with the sounds of a rocket. The Ren and Stimpy Show airings have the rocket sounds cut off the ending theme entirely.
Bone: None.
- Although on the video releases of Blue's Story Time and Arts and Crafts, the ending theme is heard.
Cup: A snippet from an episode featured on the VHS.
- On Chuckie’s Lucky Day, the snippet is from the episode "Chuckie Grows" (Chuckie: "I squished Angelica!" Phil: "That's okay.")
- On Rugrats All Growed Up, the snippet is from the episode “Tommy for Mayor” (Phil: "And no more bathies!").
Crayon: Once again, a snippet from an episode featured on the VHS.
- On Rugrats: Make Room for Dil, the snippet is from the episode "Raising Dil" (Angelica: "Can't you say Angeli--?" Dil: "Yucky! [laughs]").

Slime:
- It's seen on 10 Rugrats VHS tapes (from Paramount): The Santa Experience, Return of Reptar, Tales from the Crib, Angelica the Divine, Bedtime Bash, Diapered Duo, Chuckie the Brave, A Baby's Gotta Do What a Baby's Gotta Do, and A Rugrats Passover, which plaster the NAS "Haypile", "Scribble" or "Weird Splat" from the Sony Wonder releases.
- It also showed up on a few Allegra's Window VHS tapes: Small is Beautiful, Waiting for Grandma, Storytime Sing Along, Allegra's Christmas and The Adventures In Hummingbird Alley.
- It also appeared on some VHS releases of The Ren and Stimpy Show and Clarissa Explains it All.
- It is also shown without the copyright stamp, on a preview for Rugrats videos, which can be found on the VHS release of The Rugrats Movie and five Blue's Clues VHS tapes: Blue's Discoveries, Magenta Comes Over, Stop, Look and Listen, Blue's Big Pajama Party, and Blue's Safari, as well as most Nickelodeon tapes from 1997 to 2000.
- The animated variant can be found during a Rugrats VHS promo on several Rugrats video releases from the late '90s.
- The animated version was also seen on the American/Australian VHS Ren and Stimpy: Incredibly Stupid Stories with the copyright stamp intact.
- Also used as part of a 1996-98 "next on Nickelodeon" ID, break bumpers for Tiny Toon Adventures and The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss, and on a "Nick Takes Over Your School Sweepstakes" commercial.
Flower: Appears on several releases from the time period:
- The still version appears on the VHS tapes of Blue's Clues: Blue's Safari, CatDog: Together Forever, and Rugrats: Mommy Mania.
- It also turned up on four Gullah Gullah Island VHS tapes: the Paramount reissues of "Singalong with Binyah Binyah", "Binyah's Surprise" and "Play Along with Binyah and Friends", and "Dance Along With The Daise Family".
- It also appears on the Paramount reissues of these three Eureeka's Castle VHS tapes: Singalong At Eureeka's Castle, Christmas at Eureeka's Castle and Wide Awake at Eureeka's Castle
- It also showed up on eight Little Bear videos: Family Tales, Goodnight Little Bear, Friends, Summertime Tales, A Kiss For Little Bear, Little Bear's Band, Rainy Day Tales and Let's Play a Game.
- The animated version only appears on the three Australian Snout! shorts, which have been uploaded to Vimeo.
- This logo was also used as a part of a 1996-98 Nickelodeon break bumper.
Jack: It only appears on the Allegra's Window VHS release Play with Allegra and Friends and the Gullah Gullah Island VHS release Feelings, plastering the 1990-2000 Nickelodeon Studios logo on both shows.
Balloon:
- It appears on two Hey Arnold! VHS releases: Helga Stories and Urban Adventures VHS tapes.
- It also appears on three Rugrats VHS releases - Rugrats: Grandpa's Favorite Stories, the Venezuelan version of Rugrats: Tales from the Crib and the UK version of Rugrats: Chuckie the Brave.
- It also showed up on the Rocko's Modern Life VHS release With Friends Like These.
- It also appeared twice on an ad for A Rugrats Vacation on some assorted Nickelodeon and Paramount tapes from the period, and a VHS of It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.
- This logo was also used as part of a 1996-98 Nickelodeon break bumper.
Fish:
- Can be found on some VHS releases of Rugrats such as the 1997 versions of Tommy Troubles and Phil and Lil: Double Trouble, as well as both the US and UK releases of A Rugrats Vacation.
- This logo was also used as part of Doug and Clarissa Explains It All break bumpers used between 1995-98.
Top: It was first used as a Nickelodeon ident.
- It appears on two Little Bear VHS tapes: Meet Little Bear and Winter Tales.
- Also seen on the VHS release of Allegra's Window: Singalong with Allegra and Lindi and the 1998 UK VHS of A Rugrats Chanukah (albeit slightly tipped over, and replacing the 3D Lightbulb logo below).
Slug:
- It appears on the Paramount re-issue of Aaahh!! Real Monsters: Meet the Monsters.
- It was probably also seen on The Ren and Stimpy Show: Ren's Brain in the UK.
- This was also used on March-September 2000 airings of The Wild Thornberrys using the split-screen credits.
Eye:
- It appears on 2 Aaahh!! Real Monsters VHS tapes, which are the Paramount reissue of Monsters Night Out and the European/Australian exclusive tape All About Ickis.
- It was also used on Nickelodeon's airings of The Secret World of Alex Mack and Rugrats using the split-screen credits in 2000.
- This logo was also used as part of Legends of the Hidden Temple break bumpers used between 1995-98.
Robot: It only appears at the end of the VHS release of Rocko's Modern Life: Machine Madness. Also used as part of a network ID, and on Rugrats break bumpers used between 1995-1998.
Lightbulb:
- It can be found on the Paramount reissues of the Rocko's Modern Life tape Rocko's Modern Christmas, Doug's Christmas Story, and A Rugrats Chanukah.
- The UK version of A Rugrats Chanukah replaces this logo with the Top.
- It made a brief cameo on the 1995 short film Foil-Man.
- It was falsely rumored to have appeared on SpongeBob SquarePants episodes and other Doug episodes.
UFO: It only appears on the Australian/British VHS release of Ren & Stimpy: Space Madness. It was also used as a part of a 1996-98 "next on Nickelodeon" ID.
Christmas Tree: It only appears on the 1997 Paramount re-release of the VHS Ren & Stimpy: Have Yourself a Stinky Little Christmas.
Heart and Arrow: It only appears on the VHS release of Hey Arnold!: Love Stinks.
Leaf:
- Seen on two Rugrats VHS tapes: the UK/Australian-exclusive release Playground Patrol, and Doctor Tommy Pickles.
- It also showed up on the Australian Blue's Clues tape Pool Party, as well as the American release of Little Bear: Little Goblin Bear.
Rocket:
- Seen on the VHS releases of Rocko's Modern Life: Modern Love, CatDog vs. The Greasers, and Rugrats: Runaway Reptar.
- Also appeared on March-August 2000 airings of SpongeBob SquarePants and The Ren and Stimpy Show using the split-screen credits.
Bone:
- It appears at the end of the first two Blue's Clues VHS releases: Blue's Story Time and Arts and Crafts.
- It's also shown on the first four Dora the Explorer VHS releases: Swing into Action, Wish on a Star, To the Rescue, and Dora Saves the Prince.
- It can also be found on four Little Bill VHS releases: Me and My Family, Big Little Bill, What I Did at School, and Merry Christmas, Little Bill.
- The animated variant can be found on 3 Blue's Clues VHS releases, All Kinds of Signs, Café Blue, and Blue's Big Holiday, all of which were released in 2001.
Crown: Seen on Rugrats: Angelica Knows Best, as well as its UK release. This logo was also used as part of a 1996-98 Nickelodeon break bumper.
Saturn: It appears on Blue's Clues: Blue's Discoveries and Hey Arnold! Partners.
Cup: It appears on two PAL-region Rugrats tapes: Chuckie's Lucky Day and All Growed Up.
Crayon: It only appears on the Rugrats: Make Room for Dil and the US Spanish VHS of Rugrats: Discover America.
Shark: It only appears on the Little Bear VHS release Little Sherlock Bear. It was also used as a part of a 1996-98 "next on Nickelodeon" ID.
