Background

Portfolio Entertainment is a Canadian television production and distribution company based in Toronto, Ontario. It was founded in 1991 by Lisa Olfman and Joy Rosen with a focus on children's programming, later expanding into primetime production. On February 5, 2024, 9 Story Media Group acquired the company and took over production of their current slate.

1st Logo (June 27, 1994-December 3, 1999)

Visuals: On a crimson gradient background, there is a blue box, inside which is a stack of white papers falling down from the box. The stacked texts "PORTFOLIO" and "FILM & TELEVISION INC." ("INTERNATIONAL" in Something for Nothing), both in a Times New Roman-ish font, are seen below it.

Technique: CGI animation.

Audio: None or the closing theme.

Availability: Seen on Groundling Marsh. Also seen on the animated TV movie Something for Nothing.

2nd Logo (December 18, 2001-March 6, 2020)

Visuals: Over a white background, there is the word "PORTFOLIO" in black near the bottom of the screen. A red man silhouette with an umbrella dances on the logo, making the letters deform (and bouncing the "O" back to place with his umbrella after he steps off it). Then he opens his umbrella and jumps, freezing mid-air. The word "ENTERTAINMENT" in spaced-out letters pops out below "PORTFOLIO".

Variants:

  • A still version exists on PBS airings of The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That.
  • Another variant uses the print logo, with the umbrella man on the left and the company name on the right.

Technique: A mix of 2D computer animation (for the letters) and rotoscoping (for the person dancing with the umbrella).

Audio: The closing theme or, rarely (as seen on Stolen Miracle), a piano ditty.

Availability:

  • The still version was seen on PBS airings of The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That. The animated version was seen on Treehouse airings of the aforementioned show, RoboRoach, Carl², Doki and the failed pilot of Chinatown Cops.
  • The variant with the piano ditty was seen on Stolen Miracle.

3rd Logo (June 20, 2016-July 1, 2019)

Visuals: There is the word "portfolio" with "entertainment" in small aligned right below it on a white background. To the right of it, there is the man (now neon red) who appears mid-air with his umbrella open in his right arm, clicking his heels together and sticking his left arm out.

Technique: A still, digital graphic.

Audio: The closing theme.

Availability: Seen only on Freaktown.

4th Logo (June 1, 2020-)

Visuals: On a light blue gradient background, there is a low close-up of the man from before, now in black, dancing on the word "PORTFOLIO" in the same way as the 2nd logo, but with different movements. "PORTFOLIO" casts a shadow on the floor, and its letters deform just like in the 2nd logo, while also lighting up in different colors when the man steps on them. Then as the screen zooms out to full view, the man jumps up, opens his umbrella, and freezes mid-air, turning into a black-and-white photograph. Meanwhile, the background fades to white, and a thin black line and "ENTERTAINMENT" below it fold in below "PORTFOLIO".

Technique: A mix of rotoscope and computer animation.

Audio: The closing theme or the same piano theme from the second logo.

Availability: Debuted on Hero Elementary. It's expected to appear on all other productions moving forward.
