Background

DreamWorks Animation SKG Home Entertainment was the home entertainment arm of DreamWorks Animation, originally created in 2004 as a sub-label of DreamWorks Home Entertainment, with Universal as distributor. In 2006, with Paramount signing a new deal with the company, the label's products began to be distributed by Paramount Home Entertainment until 2014 after the Blu-ray release of Spiritː Stallion of the Cimarron.

The brand continued to be used on products distributed by 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment from 2013 to 2017 (although not on screen). Since Universal Pictures Home Entertainment took over as distributor in 2018, DreamWorks products have solely used the standard brand and the Universal logo onscreen.

Logo (November 5, 2004-May 13, 2014)


Visuals: Same as the 2004 DreamWorks Animation logo, but underneath the normal text is "HOME ENTERTAINMENT".

Variant: 2004-2006 releases used the Shrek 2 variant of the DreamWorks Animation logo (which simply says "ANIMATION") as a de-facto home video logo.

Technique: Same as the 2004 DreamWorks Animation logo.

Audio: Same as the 2004 DreamWorks Animation logo.

Audio Trivia: On DVD releases until Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, if one listens closely, the opening theme of Shrek 2 ("Prince Charming", composed by Harry Gregson-Williams) can be heard briefly as the logo's theme finishes, implying that the audio was taken directly from that film.

Audio Variant: On various international prints, the music is in high pitch.

Availability:

  • Seen on DreamWorks Animation DVDs and Blu-rays distributed by Paramount Home Entertainment from 2007-14, starting with Flushed Away and ending with Rise of the Guardians.
  • The early 2004-06 variant appeared on movies such as Shrek 2, Shark Tale, Madagascar, Wallace & Gromitː Curse of the Were-Rabbit and Over the Hedge.
  • After their distribution deal shifted from Paramount to 20th Century Fox after the box office failure of Rise of the Guardians, 2013-17 releases just have the shortened final 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment logo, and releases from 2018-present use the Universal Pictures Home Entertainment logo, with the exception of the 2014 Blu-ray of Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, released shortly before the DreamWorks catalog rights were handed off to Fox later that month.
  • Even though DreamWorks updated their logo in 2010, and Paramount ended its deal in 2012, this logo continued to last until 2014.
