Kids Edutainment Video

Background

This was a label of The Lyons Group that released Barney and the Backyard Gang to VHS. The label disappeared around 1990.

Logo (August 29, 1988-1990)

Visuals: On a light purple/pink background, the silver text "Kids Edutainment" scrolls to the left side of the screen. When it is fully off screen, a silver bar with the word "Video" on the far right of the bar in white, scrolls on screen. The bar zooms out and the "Kids Edutainment" from earlier, this time stacked, rises from behind the bar.

Variant: The original version of this logo has it shown on a black background, and also positioned at a lower point than usual.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: An echoing set of strings with a 4-note trumpet tune when the bar is seen and zooms out; this is actually a low-pitched version of an APM Music track, "Setting Sail" composed by Dick Stephen Walter.

Audio Variant: On an early print of Three Wishes and the original 1988 release of The Backyard Show, the logo with the black background is used with a toy piano playing the first three notes of "I Love You".

Availability:

  • Seen on the first video releases of Barney and the Backyard Gang, from The Backyard Show to Barney Goes to School.
  • The black background variant was seen on A Day at the Beach and the original and 1989 re-release of The Backyard Show. It was also seen on Three Wishes, although a few prints of this video use the regular version with the purple/pink background.
