Background
Right Entertainment was a home video subsidiary of Entertainment Rights formed in August 2001 to distribute Entertainment Rights' material on VHS and DVD in the United Kingdom. Their releases were distributed by Universal Pictures Video UK.
Following Entertainment Rights' folding and rebranding as Classic Media in 2009, the Right Entertainment name was retired in favour of the Classic Media brand as well.
(October 29, 2001-March 23, 2009)
Logo: We see the camera rotating around the gold word "RIGHT". A shooting star flies around the logo as the camera continues to zoom out where we see that the logo is set within night-time background with a full moon above the ocean at the bottom. The shooting star creates a "figure 8" shape as it flies into the water while two more shooting stars fly off as the word "ENTERTAINMENT" on the bottom of "RIGHT" appears via the shining wipe effect.
Variants:
- On the DVD releases of Transformers: Armada - Vol. 1 and Clifford: Forever Friends, a short version is used where only the last half of the logo is shown.
- The print logo is similar to the Entertainment Rights logo, except there are only three shooting stars instead of one star and the man's head, and also the words are in white. It can be seen on promos and DVD/VHS covers. Onscreen, there are three known variations:
- The first variation, seen on a trailer for Barbie in the Nutcracker, has the print logo on a white background with a byline for Entertainment Rights below. Two versions are known to exist - one with just the logo and byline, and one with a Mattel copyright notice at the bottom.
- The second variation, used on a 2004 promo for the company's catalogue, shows the print logo zooming out against a navy-blue gradient background.
- The third variation, used on a 2005 promo for the company's catalogue, has the three shooting stars fly to their usual spots on a solid navy-blue background, with the words sliding into place as this happens. Once the stars and text are in their proper places, the rightmost star leaves its trail.
Technique: CGI animation.
- The print version uses either a basic zooming out transition (2004) or 2D shooting stars (2005).
Music/Sounds: The shooting stars and the splashing, and the drumbeat choir and the waves. The print version has no music, but on the Right Entertainment VHS/DVD promos, an instrumental version of the song Boom Boom! from The Basil Brush Show plays. On the 2005 variant the announcer is also heard saying "For happy faces and smiles all around, choose Right Entertainment."
Availability: Common. Although the brand was retired once Entertainment Rights was rebranded and folded into Classic Media, a lot of their releases still remain in print.
- It first appeared on the VHS release of Barbie in the Nutcracker, and last appeared on the Postman Pat: SDS DVD release "To The Rescue!".
- It appears on home media releases of properties owned or distributed by Entertainment Rights in the United Kingdom, including Christopher Crocodile, Budgie the Little Helicopter, Barney (the Dog, not to be confused with the purple Dinosaur), The Family Ness, Arthur, Cubeez, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Merlin the Magical Puppy, Finger Tips, Transformers: Armada, Grabbit the Rabbit, Felix the Cat, The Basil Brush Show, Postman Pat, Watership Down, Ethelbert the Tiger, Little Red Tractor, Meeow!, Clifford's Puppy Days, The Story of Tracy Beaker, My Parents are Aliens, Lavender Castle, the Trumptonshire trilogy, Jim Jam and Sunny, Finley the Fire Engine, Rupert Bear: Follow the Magic..., Postman Pat: Special Delivery Service, among many, many others.
- Also appears on movies and specials such as the Barbie direct-to-video movies, The Tangerine Bear: Home in Time for Christmas, Sinbad: Beyond the Veil of Mists, Jingle Bells, O' Christmas Tree, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, among others.
- Also shows up on various compilation releases such as Children's Christmas Collection, Football Fun Collection, and Christmas Fun Time.
- Most releases preceide this logo with Universal's (mainly the version with both the URL and copyright), although on earlier VHS releases it appears after, with at least three earlier releases (Christopher Crocodile, Barney the Dog and The Family Ness, all released in April 2002) using the E.T variant. Some releases only have the Right logo on its own without any Universal logo appearing.
