Background

Granada LWT International was the international sales holder for ITV franchisees Granada Television and London Weekend Television, formed in 1994 after the purchase of LWT by Granada. It mainly focused on the distribution of LWT's material. Despite the formation of this venture, Granada Television International (later rebranded as B.R.I.T.E.) was retained as a standalone company.

In 1995, with Granada purchasing a stake in Yorkshire-Tyne Tees, the holding company of ITV franchisees Yorkshire Television and Tyne Tees Television, it was announced in April that Granada LWT International and Yorkshire-Tyne Tees Enterprises would merge to form a single business, eventually titled British Independent Television Enterprises Ltd. (BRITE). This would allow the distribution arms for ITV franchisees to be reduced down to four - CTE Carlton for Carlton, Central and Meridian, ITEL for Anglia, and Scottish Television Enterprises for Scottish Television. All other ITV franchisees retained their standalone distribution units.
