Background

ITEL (short for International Television Enterprises Limited) was the international television distribution unit of Anglia Television based in London, England, originally founded as Survival Anglia Ltd. in 1971, as a producer for the show Survival, and was renamed as ITEL in 1982. The company held distribution rights to several companies, including HBO, Cosgrove Hall Films and Millimages.

In 1992, as part of Anglia's partnership with HBO, the broadcaster acquired a 50% stake in ITEL. In 1996, Anglia and it's subsidiaries were sold to United News & Media, and soon took full control of ITEL by October 1999 by purchasing HBO's stake.

Following the purchase of United News & Media's media assets to the Granada Media Group in September 2000, ITEL was folded and merged into Granada Media International in December.
