Background

This much remembered logo appeared on Survival (US title: The World of Survival), a long-running wildlife documentary series made by Britain's Anglia Television (it was actually the name of Anglia's nature documentary unit). This logo only appeared on international prints of this wildlife series and Tales of the Unexpected, replacing the Anglia Television Knight endcap which appeared on the original UK broadcasts.

(1971-1980, 1991)

Logo: On a light yellow/brown background, we see a thin brown line at the bottom of the screen morph into a rounded brown square with a very abstract "SaL" inside. Underneath the letters, the words "SURVIVAL ANGLIA, LTD." appear in the brown square.

Variants:

  • Reports from users say there is an earlier music variation of a percussion-oriented synthesized fanfare with three voices simultaneously rising in pitch each time. So far, no video evidence of this variation exists.
  • There is another version where the text is "S.A.L. FILMS, INC."
  • A still version appeared on The Secret World of Bats.

FX/SFX: The letters appearing, and the morphing.

Music/Sounds: A four note orchestral theme with a sting at the end as the title comes into view. Other times, it would be silent or have the ending theme over it.

Availability: Ultra rare. Try looking for Kodak Video releases of World of Survival.
