Background

The Walt Disney Gold Classic Collection (also known as the Walt Disney Collection in Australia) began in 2000 to release films, such as ones that never made it to the Masterpiece Collection like Make Mine Music, Saludos Amigos, The Rescuers Down Under, Toy Story and A Bug's Life. They finished in 2001.

(May 2, 2000-June 5, 2001)

Logo: On a blue background with gold glitter effects, the gold words "WALT DiSNEY", in the corporate font, are seen. Below the words is a gold ribbon with the red words "GOLD COLLECTION", separated by a red (gold outlined) circle with the Disney castle and the word "CLASSIC" below, both etched in gold. The logo "shines", with a line sweep on the ribbon, beveled shining on the "WALT DiSNEY" text, and the glitter sparkling like stars.

Technique: Basic CGI effects.

Music/Sounds: Same as the 1991-2001 WDHV logo.

Availability: Very rare, since it was only used for a year.

  • It was only seen on some VHS releases, with the first tape being The Fox and the Hound (released May 2, 2000).
  • All Gold Classic Collection DVDs, as well as the first VHS releases in the line, used the 1991-2001 WDHV logo, including releases still in print.
  • Australian releases do not use this logo, they just use the 2001 Walt Disney Home Entertainment Logo or the 1995 Disney Videos logo.
  • The last release to have this logo was the 2001 Canadian VHS of Oliver & Company (released June 5, 2001). Its US release, which was released a year later in May 2002, used the Walt Disney Home Entertainment logo.

Legacy: Compared to the Classics, Mini Classics and Masterpiece Collection logos, this is considered to be the weakest of the four, due to not having much in animation beyond a lot of shining, and reusing the 1991 WDHV theme when the other three logos have their own compositions.
