Background

Cannon Video was the home video division of Cannon Films.

Logo (1988-1994)

Visuals: On a black background, a blue flash occurs, and the words "CANNON VIDEO" with the Cannon logo, both in blue, zoom-out and in simultaneously, respectively. The logo shines, and the words turn gold. Then, the words and logo fly toward the screen, with the logo separating and "folding" away.

Variant: A version of the 1988 version exists where the end animation does not play; instead, the logo stays for longer and causes the music to turn into a mess of loud whooshes and cello notes. Eventually, the logo cuts out. This version has been spotted on the 1995 demo VHS of Midnight Ride.

Technique: CGI.

Audio:

  • 1988-1992: A dreamy tune ending with a synth horn fanfare, which sounds similar to the Cannon Films jingle.
  • 1992-1994: A different, action/militaristic-sounding tune, having what sounds like a board being smashed at the beginning before segueing into a whooshing sound and sparkles.

Availability: It's seen on old North American tapes of Cannon Films from the time period. Cannon Video titles were distributed by Warner Home Video, but the only way you could tell is the label (striped), and a mention on the back of the box. The "Cheesy Shield" does not make an appearance on any of these tapes, although it does appear before this logo on Brazilian VHS releases of The Borrower and Midnight Ride.
