Background

Flying Edge was one of Acclaim Entertainment's labels used during the peak period of the Sega Genesis, Game Gear and Master System. It was established in 1992, shortly after Acclaim purchased Mirrorsoft, to publish games for Sega systems and was folded into Acclaim Entertainment in 1994.

Logo (1992-1994)

Visuals: Over a blue background, the logo starts with the stacked words "FLYING EDGE" in 3D, with a yellow wing arrow between the words.

Variants:

  • The coloring of the background varies. Some games have a white, black, or lighter-blue background. On Arch Rivals for Genesis, the background is magenta.
  • The text does not have a 3D effect (therefore looking much flatter) on The Simpsons: Bart Vs. The Space Mutants on Genesis and Game Gear, and the Game Gear game of The Simpsons: Bartman Meets Radioactive Man.
  • On Krusty's Super Fun House for Game Gear, a copyright notice is seen below the logo: FLYING EDGE IS A DIVISION OF ACCLAIM ENTERTAINMENT, INC.
  • On Robocop 3, the background is white, and the letters are Persian green.
  • On Super Smash T.V., the logo has a more detailed design with metallic-green letters.
  • There may be compressed "PRESENTS" below between two dots, or no word at all. The "PRESENTS" text looks different on some games.
  • On The Simpsons: Bart's Nightmare is Bart running past the logo screaming.
  • On Roger Clemens MVP Baseball, WWF Royal Rumble and WWF Super WrestleMania, the yellow wing arrow fades in with the logo.
  • On The Steel Empire, the logo is shown underneath the game's title screen.

Technique: Normally a still graphic. The variant uses a fading effect. The Bart's Nightmare variant uses sprite animation.

Audio: None or the opening theme of the game.

Availability: Can be seen on many games for Sega systems during the era.
