Background

Kudos Film and Television is a British film and television production company formed in 1992. It has produced television series for the BBC, ITV and Channel 4, and also started a film subsidiary. In 2006, it was purchased by Shine Limited, which itself was acquired by News Corporation in 2011.

1st Logo (1993-1998)

Note: In this video, the logo (although incomplete) can be seen at the 0:26 mark.

Logo: On a white background, we see a blue rectangle with the white text "kudos" falling down and slide over vertically, prompting it to move to a horizontal position. More blue rectangles appear, and extra credit appears below the logo.

Variant: A still version exists.

Technique: 2D animation.

Music/Sounds: The end theme of the show.

Availability: Most of Kudos' earlier shows are hard to find, but it was seen on Screaming Reels, Good Ideas of the 20th Century, Desperately Seeking Something, Roald Dahl's Revolting Recipes and Nigel Slater's Real Food. Still seen on sites like Screenocean and All 4.

2nd Logo (1998-2005)

Logo: On a white background, we see a series of moving blue rectangles that slide over to form the Kudos logo from the previous logo, which moves in a trailing effect. Once it's finished, extra credit info appears below the logo.

Variant: A still version exists.

Technique: 2D animation.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the show.

Availability: The animated version is rare, as it was only seen on Psychos. The still version is more common, as it was seen on the first two seasons of Spooks and the first season of Hustle, available on DVD.

3rd Logo (2005-2013)

Logo: The logo is the word "kudos" in white with "Film and Television" below, all on a teal rectangle. The rectangle is rigged with a five-color top crest.

Variants:

  • The logo could appear together with other logos. For example on the U.S. version of Life on Mars, the logo is at the bottom with the Space Floor TV logo on top being smaller (however, the aforementioned logo is also slightly larger and the full teal background has the lens flare on the pilot episode).
  • Since 2007, a Shine Group byline appears below.

Technique: None.

Music/Sounds: The ending theme of the show or none.

Availability: Common. It was seen on their shows that they produced until 2013 such as Spooks, Life on Mars (including the U.S. adaptation), Hustle, The Fixer and Law & Order UK.

4th Logo (January 15, 2013-)

Logo: On a black background, we see the word "KUDOS" in Arial Rounded MT Bold. There is a white semi-circle inside the letter "K".

Bylines:

  • 2013-2015: The same byline from the previous logo.
  • 2015-2016: "ENDEMOLSHINEGROUP" (in the same font as the 2014 Endemol Shine logo).
  • 2016-2020: "EndemolShineGroup" or "part of EndemolShineGroup" (in the same font as the 2016 Endemol Shine logo).
  • 2021-: "We are Banijay" with the Banijay logo on the left.

Variants:

  • There is an animated version where outlines are forming the logo.
  • Sometimes, the logo shares the screen with other logos.
  • A inverted version exists.
  • A bylineless version exists.

Technique: None. The logo forming for the animated version.

Music/Sounds: Same as the last logo.

Availability: Current. It first appeared on its continuing shows like Law & Order UK, Utopia and Grantchester and it's started to appear on its new shows from 2013 onwards such as Tin Star, Humans and Code 404, among others.
