Background

Foxtel Productions is the production company of Foxtel, an Australian pay television company that acts as a joint venture between the old News Corporation (Fox) and Telstra. They didn't produce much original programming at first, but now they produce it actively.

1st Logo (2007-2012)

Visuals: On a black background, a light shines from left to right, revealing the Foxtel logo (the word "FOXTEL) logo in red-orange. Below it, there are "ORIGINAL" and "PRODUCTION", both in grey. Copyright information is below. The entire logo fades out a little ways into the logo.

Variant: An early version has the Foxtel logo in white on a red-orange rounded oblong. There is also a square with two searchlights crossing next to the Foxtel logo. The rest of the text is also white.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: A whoosh.

Availability: Seen on The WAG Nation.

2nd Logo (2012-2016)

Visuals: On a black-grey gradient background, a searchlight shines and reveals the Foxtel logo in grey. The text "made for" is above the logo, while copyright information is below. The logo shines, then the light and "made for" fade out and the logo itself fades out a couple of seconds later.

Variant: In 2014, the logo was enhanced with better animation. In this version, everything fades out at the same time.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Same as before. The newer version has an angelic choir added to the whoosh.

Availability: It was seen on numerous shows and programming, which includes Selling Houses Australia and The Real Housewives of Melbourne.

3rd Logo (2016-7 June 2017)

Visuals: On a dark background, a spotlight turns up. The background then shows up to be a mix of bright coloured spotlights with the Foxtel logo and "Original" seen below it. The logo shines, then a few seconds later the spotlight turns off, making the screen dark again.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A faint and lush ding sound effect.

Availability: Seen on shows during this time period such as the Australian version of Whose Line is It Anyway?.

4th Logo (8 June 2017-)

Visuals: Over a dark gradient blue background, lowercase letters slide in from different directions in their positions to reveal the words "foxtel original" in a Futura-style font. The logo then slides out the same way and in its place, Foxtel's logo (six dots forming an abstract "f") slides in.

Variants:

  • An opening variant exists that has both the letters and the abstract "f" slide in together and remain on screen.
  • Beginning in August 2018, the abstract "f" was removed from both the opening and closing variant. Both variants just have the "foxtel original" text animate as before, as part of a minor rebrand launched with the iQ4 set top box.
  • Starting on 21 July 2019, the background is changed to a vibrant orange.

Technique: 2D animation.

Audio: None.

Availability: The new branding was revealed on 6 June 2017 and was first seen as an on-screen production logo on 8 June 2017 on season 7 episode 7 of Grand Designs Australia. It has appeared on future productions, as well as existing shows like Wentworth.

5th Logo (2021-)

Visuals: There is the "FOXTEL" letters and its shadow. The shadow retracts into the letters, which draw themselves into orange. At the same time, the word "Originals" draws itself.

Variant: A longer version exists, with an extended version of the shadow and different colours when the shadow retracts.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A brief crescendoing string note, composed by Zelig Sound.

Availability: Seen on current shows that Foxtel are producing, which includes Wentworth starting with series 9.
