Background

Retort was a brand name formed in January 1, 2012, when FremantleMedia split Talkback Thames into four companies. It was focused on scripted comedy. In 2018, it was replaced by Hare and Tortoise.

(January 1, 2012-2018)

Logo: We see a red box which swings a little before becoming still. The word "RETORT" is in the middle, and the FremantleMedia byline is below.

Variants:

  • Most of the time it shares the screen with other logos.
  • On the final episode of The IT Crowd, "The Internet is Coming" (the only episode made post-split), the Delightful Pictures logo appears between the box and "for Channel 4". Notably this is also the only time on the show the Delightful Pictures logo has a byline: "A Boom Pictures Company".

Technique: The swinging.

Music/Sounds: The end theme of the show.

Availability: It was seen on then-current shows which are The IT Crowd, PhoneShop, the Goodnight Sweetheart one-off special Many Happy Returns and Birds of a Feather. It also appears on Count Arthur Strong and Chewing Gum.
