Background
First Rites was a video distributor jointly owned by Australian company Tribe Enterprises, and American film producer The Asylum. The label focused on releasing indie films from up-and-coming filmmakers and exclusively distributing them through popular video stores. First Rites released films in the United States (where they were sold at Hollywood Video), Canada (sold at Rogers Video), and Australia (sold at Video Ezy), and the sales and rental fees from participating titles went back to the filmmakers. The program ceased operations sometime in the mid-2000s.

Visuals: On a black background, an red circle, pretty much an unfertilized human egg, is seen the middle of the screen, bobbling slightly as a badly done drawing of a sperm swimming on the bottom then the top, where it suddenly notices the egg. It then gets to the middle to observe it as it swims around it and then stops to get ready to bump into it, not breaking through. It happens two more times as the sperm successfully breaks it into to halves, in which they spin with the sperm before fusing into a stick figure shape. Then, the 3D white, tube-like text "tribe" rotates and zooms in, with the stick figure being over the "i". The text zooms in quickly and then zooms out to the left, revealing the text "firstrites" next to it in the same font. The URL "www.tribe.com.au" fades in quickly in the same font as the words.
Technique: 2D computer animation.
Audio: A quiet hum, followed by dialogue from the sperm done in a French accent: "(scatting) What was that? Uh-huh. *whistles* Could this be love? You're the kind of 'ova I will not get over." After this, some disappointed groans, then a sigh of relief (from the sperm) can be heard, followed by some drums when the text turns into place, a man says the word "TRIBE." in a serious voice, and then concluding with a whoosh, pop, and the sound of a baby wailing.
Availability: Seen on various tapes distributed under the First Rites label, like Middlemen and Waste, and possibly also Bellyfruit, Chicks, Man, Pure Race, among others.
