Background

Roadrunner Records is a record label formed by Cees Wessels in 1980 in the Netherlands, though it later relocated to New York City. Initially focused on importing North American heavy metal releases in Europe, the label started to sign many heavy, thrash, and death metal bands such as Annihilator, King Diamond, Obituary, and Suffocation. The success of Type O Negative, Sepultura, and later Slipknot, led Roadrunner to also sign non-metal acts such as Lenny Kravitz and Nickelback. In 2007, Roadrunner was purchased by Warner Music Entertainment. The label is still active today, although their Dutch offices have closed and most of their artists have signed to other labels.

Logo (1999-)

Visuals: Just the Roadrunner Records logo fading in and out on a black background.

Variant: From 2005-2006, the number "25" was added into the logo, as the label celebrated their 25th anniversary that year.

Technique: A still, digital graphic.

Audio: None.

Availability: Easy to find on DVD. While the logo can easily be spotted on said releases from the company (which are readily available online), their VHS tapes have seen no re-releases (in any way, shape or form) and are long out of print. [Examples?]
