Background

As part of the re-vamping of Channel 5's portfolio of channels, Fiver (originally launched as Five Life) became 5Star on 7 March 2011.

1st ID (March 7, 2011-March 7, 2013)

Visuals: On a setting, a circle with a transparent star enclosed on it is seen hiding in some place before it moves around while leaving colorful trails behind and separate each other to show its colors: pink, purple, yellow, green and cyan before merging back during this. Then, the star turns into the ident's respective color and flashes into an illusion, which consists of something made up of shapes in its respective color. It then flashes back to its color as the circle flies away from it. The circle-star (with the star being transparent again) moves around again until it reaches a comfortable distance. When it reaches, the circle moves to reveal the Channel 5 logo beside it as the color of the star switches to pink, purple, yellow, green, cyan and back to its transparent color.

Trivia: The presentation is basically the same as Fiver's, but edited to include the new logo.

Variants:

  • Flyover: Below a flyover with graffiti sprayed below, the circle-star flies behind the flyover before moving closer and flying down. It then goes up, separating its color and merging back before flying away. The circle then arrives closer to the screen as the star turns yellow, showing the flyover being made of yellow, orange and black and white zigzag colored shapes. After the illusion flashes back to its yellow color, the circle moves back and goes to the left, before forming the logo. A person riding a bicycle can be also seen in the distance.
  • Mall: The camera slowly pans down from the first floor of the shopping mall to a ground floor of the shopping mall. During this, the circle-star is seen hiding behind a banner before flying away from it and towards to the left while separating each other and merging back. It then flies in a further distance and goes up before settling closer to the screen as the star turns pink and flashes to show a tree being made up of several pink, blue and black and white zigzag colored crosses, which one of them flashes and spins. The illusion flashes back to its color before the circle flies away. As the camera reaches the ground floor, the camera flies to the left before zooming in to the left-center of the screen, where it forms the logo.
  • Park: A helicopter view of a park with buildings beside it is shown with the camera slowly zooms in, as the circle-star moves across the road and flies up. It then moves to the left, separate its colors and merge back. It then moves behind a building, before moving away and getting closer to the screen as the star turns cyan, flashing to show the trees are made out of blue and green shapes as the camera slowly pans above the trees with a cityscape in a further distance. The illusion later flashes back to cyan as the circle flies away, before it flies above the trees and forms the logo.
  • Railway: On a railway station with people walking, the circle flies behind the people, before separating its colors and merging back, as the camera follows the circle. It then flies to the left before moving back and flies up. The circle, with the star already colored in blue, then flies closer on the screen, showing that the signboard has been replaced by blue, purple and black and white zigzag colored rectangles with its components spinning and glowing. The illusion then flashes back to its blue color as the camera moves away. The circle then reappears on the left, before going back, flying to the right and settling on the roof of the station as the camera follows. The logo formation is then shown.
  • Funfair: A funfair setting is shown with the circle above it. The circle then flies up and moves to the right before going closer and flying up again. It then moves closer to the camera as the star turns purple before showing an illusion where a ride is made out of purple, cyan, pink and white shapes. The illusion then disappears before the circle flying away as the camera pans out towards a carousel and shows another view of the funfair. During this, the circle flies to the left in the distance, comes closer and repeats these actions before proceeding to the logo formation.
  • Christmas 2011 and 2012: Over a green screen setting with a stack of cardboard boxes, a crew member walks towards the boxes while holding a cardboard box is seen as the circle flies towards the setting. He puts the box above a stack of boxes before walking away as the circle flies behind them, goes right, comes closer, separates its colors and merges back before flying away. The circle later comes closer to the camera as the star turns yellow, showing a colorful Christmas tree with two triangles on three of the rows surrounding them. The illusion then flashes to its color before zooming out beside the boxes, which later zooms in and proceeds to the logo formation.

Technique: Live-action and CGI.

Audio: An electro tune, which varies depends on the ident. A continuity announcer can also be heard throughout the ident.

Visuals:

  • Magnets: First, a cyan square forms itself on a white background before floating upwards to become 3D. It suddenly floats alongside with other white circles, squares and triangles, while a different shot of it is shown. It then cuts to a close-up of the square, as various purple shapes being sucked onto it like a magnet. The footage then cuts to various shapes from the white surface getting sucked with the parts of the surface bulging up and down as the camera pans to the right, before it cuts to the cyan square, with more purple and cyan shapes being sucked onto it. Two shots of the surface bulging up to form the logo from before, with the text being cyan, as a cyan square slowly flying away from it, with the last shot being an overhead view.
  • Asteroids: Two white rectangles open up on a white background to reveal a white vortex as the camera zooms into it. It then reveals a top-view of several white triangles as the camera rotates into view and moves to show some cyan and white asteroid-like shapes floating. The camera then zooms out, revealing that the asteroids are forming the logo from the magnets ID, with several lime green squares and rectangles moving up and down behind them.
  • Stripes: A purple square transitions in with a blinds effect on a white background before zooming out and forms a ribbon, which flies in as the camera follows. It then cuts to another shot of the ribbon flying before expanding to a white surface and disappears, causing the scene to change to the ribbon goes down to the floor and continues expanding as more lines join in. Several lines draw through the "V" surface are then shown, before cutting to the lines goes through the surface with the logo embossed onto it. Finally, the camera shows a top-view of the surface as the lines fly away, turning the text pink.
  • Christmas 2013 and 2015: A car drives through a white environment setting with houses, trees, clouds and flying confetti, filling everything cyan, pink and purple. As the car drives through a ramp, a train with presents carried over passes below the ramp as the camera follows it, before it cuts to a train passes through the tunnel and filling the road purple and everything colorful, just like the car. The scene then changes to the train crossing a ramp surrounding the Christmas tree. The final shot shows another view of the train crossing the ramp before the camera flies into an overhead view, showing the logo, with the text in purple.
