The station is the largest directly-owned property of Nexstar Media Group. KTLA's studios are located at the Sunset Bronson Studios on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, and its transmitter is located atop Mount Wilson. It is the second-largest CW affiliate by market size that is not owned and operated by either of the network's co-owners, Paramount Global or AT&T's Warner Bros. Discovery.

1st Logo (1947-1957)

Visuals: In a black and white version on a lake background, we see a mountain below with many stars on top, next, the stars zoom in, moves, and become inverted with a circle zooms out around the stars, forming the Paramount Pictures logo on a white background, then, we see the broadcast or radio tower fades on top of the mountain, with the tower transmitting, then, we see the letters "KTLA" appears one-by-one in the middle of the tower, it stops transmitting, then, we see the word "Television Productions, Inc." writes below the mountain.

Technique: Cel animation.

Audio: An announcer saying "This is KTLA Television Los Angeles, owned and operated by Television Productions, Inc. A service of Paramount Pictures. With studios joining the Paramount often Hollywood, transmitting from Mount Wilson, California on television channel number 5 with frequency of 76 to 82 megacycles. Again tonight, we're ready to bring you a full evening of television entertainment, from now until 7 o'clock, watch the news go by, and listen to recorded music as you align your receivers for best reception of KTLA."

2nd Logo (1957-195?)

Visuals: On a superimposed credit of The Polka Parade, we see the words "Produced in cooperation with" on the top, below it there's a rectangle with "KTLA" on the left, next to it, there's a play button triangle with the word "CHANNEL" on it, next to it, there’s a outline circle with the large number "5" on it.

Technique: None.

Audio: The end theme of The Polka Parade.

Availability: Seen on The Polka Parade.

3rd Logo (1967-1977?)

Visuals: We see there's 4 number "5" are spinning around, 3 of them flashing and then disappear. We suddenly cut to the "Orange 5" zoom in, at the same time the text "GWB-LOS ANGELES" fade in. Finally, we see the letter "KTLA" zoom into the "5" tail.

Technique: Typical cel animation.

Audio: A bombastic fanfare, with the announcer saying: "This is channel 5, KTLA Los Angeles. With the reminder not to waste energy, how many lights are on in your house right now?".

4th Logo (1977-1981)

Visuals: From this period, the station used the number "5" in a rectangle box as their main logo. And they used three different television idents with this logo:

  • 1977: On a brown background, we see their "5" logo appears on the left, and the word "KTLA Los Angeles" wipes in vertically.
  • 1978: We see a shot of a gold live-action model of their "5" logo on a black background. And then when the logo is about to get out, an another one, fades in and zooms out to the near-center. The word "KTLA LOS ANGELES" then wipes in on the right side.
  • 1979-1981: We see on a black background, a silver live-action model of their "5" logo turns around and faces the screen. Then, a silver model of the word "KTLA" appears on the left side, turns around and faces the screen. And while the word was turning, the number "5" shone, and a flash occured on the word "KTLA" letter-by-letter to sync with the announcer saying the station's name.

Variants: Sometimes in the 1979 ident, the model and the word switches places, and in a later variant, the flash on the letter doesn't sync with what the announcer is saying.

Technique: Live-action on the models, and 2D animation on the word "KTLA LOS ANGELES" in the first two idents.

Audio: Each ident all have different music, such as:

  • 1977: A weird-sounding synth sound.
  • 1978: A bombastic and proud fanfare ("Touch of Ivory/Prestige Theme (7)" by Keith Mansfield from the KPM music library), with the announcer saying: "Golden West Broadcasters channel 5, KTLA Los Angeles".
  • 1979-1981: Varied on different idents, all of them are different synth tunes and different sentences that are said by the announcer. And most of the time in the ident, when the announcer says the word "KTLA", it will sync in with the flash that occurs on the letter.
