Background

On 5 February 1989, with the launch of Sky Television, Sky Channel which broadcast throughout Europe since it's Satellite Television days in 1982, restructured itself to focus exclusively on the United Kingdom and Ireland. In it's place, Eurosport launched and was tailored for the market.

As the transponder space Eurosport was located on still had a contract to air entertainment programmes, the channel offered a short-lived strand/sub-channel Sky Europe which broadcast throughout 1989, mainly late at night.
