2K Boston

Background

On January 9, 2006, Take-Two Interactive Software acquired Irrational Games and its Australian side studio, and a year after, the "Irrational" name was dropped and the studios were incorporated into the 2K Games label, renaming them 2K Boston and 2K Australia respectively (in 2007, 2K Marin was also spun off by five people from 2K Boston). The 2K Boston name was only used for Bioshock in 2007, while 2K Australia operated until 2015. In 2010, Take-Two decided to return the "Irrational" name back for the Boston studio "to respect the studio's legacy".

Visuals: On a black background, a gramophone rises up into view, playing some old-timely music with an opera singer. The camera eventually pans by the loudspeaker and onto the record, which features a gold label with the 2K logo on it in grey, as well as the text "A 2K GAME" on it. A grey ring is also seen around the perimeter of the label as well as copyright info along it. There's also a grainy film filter with a sepia-toned look to it up to this point. After a second on the label, the filter and record fade out as the 2K logo glows brightly and the shield behind it, though now in cornflower blue, appears with a foggy transition effect. Below the logo is the text "BOSTON" in the 2K Games font, which then changes to "AUSTRALIA" after a few seconds by the same effect.

Technique: CGI by EyeballNYC.

Audio: The aforementioned music, as well as an ambient shine sound when the logo transitions to the 2K Boston logo.

Availability: Seen on BioShock.
