Vektor Multimedia

From the Audiovisual Identity Database, the motion graphics museum

Background

Vektor Multimedia was a British video game developer. They are known for a few Muzzy PC games co-produced with BBC.

Logo (1997, 2003)

Unused "IBM" variant

Later variant

Visuals: On a black background, two rectangles turn to face the camera, one blue and one red. The word "v e k t o r" is on the blue rectangle and "multimedia" is on the red rectangle. The BBC English logo appears above the Vektor logo in the same way. Once both logos stops turning, the word "present" drops down letter-by-letter.

Variants:

  • In the files of said games, the IBM logo is seen next to the two logos.
    • Also in the files is a still variant, with the BBC and IBM logos below the Vektor logo. The image is dark, perhaps to act as a fade in. Furthermore, a spritesheet containing the three logos (with each logo slightly bigger and the dark filter removed) is also in the files.
  • Reprints of previous Muzzy games have a white box with the 1997 BBC logo fading in. The animation is slower.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A peaceful space tune.

Audio Variants: There are at least three unused alternate jingles likely intended for this logo, the former two are known to exist in the files for Muzzy at the Seaside and Muzzy at the Disco whereas the latter is only known to exist in the files for Muzzy at the Disco.

  • The first unused jingle consists of a bass note followed by a triumphant fanfare.
  • The second unused jingle consists of a similar albeit different jingle to the first unused one.
  • The third unused jingle consists of two bass notes with an eerie choir, followed by a Back to the Future-esque fanfare.
    • This jingle is present twice in the files for Muzzy at the Disco, one of which starts with the fanfare and the other also has the used jingle, albeit shortened somewhat poorly, indicating that either jingle in the latter file may have been intended for another logo that would have played alongside it.

Availability:

  • It is seen on Muzzy at the Seaside and Muzzy at the Disco.
  • It is possible that Muzzy and the Clockmaker and Muzzy and the Gondoland Games also use this logo, but currently neither title has been found.

Logo (1996)

Visuals: A green light changes colours and shines on the "vektor" text as it passes from right to left, before the text flashes while facing upward. It then turns to face the camera, and the blue rectangle fades in. Red squares appear and form the "multimedia" rectangle, albeit with a white gradient.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The raw file does not have any audio, although it is likely it would have used the previous logo's music or one of its unused themes.

Availability: It is only known to have appeared in the files of Muzzy at the Seaside.
