Background

Massive Entertainmment was founded in 1997 in Sweden. The company is well known for its strategy games, mainly Ground Control and World in Conflict. It was bought out by Vivendi Games in 2002, but after the merger with Activision, the company was let go. Then in 2008, it was acquired by Ubisoft Entertainment.

1st Logo (May 31-December 14, 2000)

Visuals: On a black background, many orange lines make a grid-like structure, with white streaks continuously going through the lines, as well as clips from the game itself. The grid continues to zoom out and grows larger, eventually forming into an orange mass. After it zooms out, it reveals a blue ball with two cuts on the right and bottom, as the screen changes from letterbox format to fullscreen. The ball rotates slightly with an orange border and "massive enTerTainmenT" below it. The screen then flashes, making the ball conduct lightning and a fog forming for a brief second before dispatching, with two shines appearing briefly on the border. It then shines for a second before quickly zooming towards the screen.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Networking sounds and people's voices ultimately merging into a sharp noise. A voice saying "Massive" can be heard at the end.

Availability: Can be seen on Ground Control, including the demo version.

2nd Logo (June 23, 2004)

Visuals: On a black background, a puddle of blue balls swirls around and condenses into a sphere. The screen then flashes and reveals the "ME" ball from before, but flatter. It then gets pushed away by a rectangle with "MASSIVE" in a futuristic font and "ENTERTAINMENT" below, being smaller, more plain, and spaced out to fit the former word. They vibrate from the recoil, before the ball rolls in from the side, pushing it to the right.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The sound of swirling up, banging, and rolling to match the actions.

Availability: Appears on Ground Control 2: Operation Exodus. The demo version contains this logo still and color-reversed.

3rd Logo (September 18, 2007)

Visuals: An assault squad blasts the side of the Massive logo. Then soldiers appear, one of them runs very close and clears the logo from vision.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: Faint background sounds.

Availability: Appears on World in Conflict.

4th Logo (March 10, 2009)

Visuals: On a black background, the "MASSIVE ENTERTAINMENT" text can be seen in the middle of the screen, inside a rectangle showing a torn US flag flowing in the wind. It slowly zooms out as a black helicopter passes over the text and the flag turns into the Soviet Union's flag. An explosion occurs in the back and a group of soldiers passes over the text, changing the background to white in the rectangle and causing it to pulse once.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: The sounds of the effects going on in the rectangle, ending with a four-note piano ditty.

Availability: Appears on World in Conflict: Soviet Assault.
