New Dimension

Background

New Dimension Video was a short-lived label for Medusa Communications, founded in 1987 and was discontinued the same year. The label's existence was possibly an excuse to release B-movies, mainly of the 15 and 18 ratings, and a few "video nasties".

Logo (1987)

Visuals: On a black background, a beige cube fades in, facing upwards at an odd angle. The cube then suddenly shatters into 30 planks, 5 for each side, that fly off and move in a single direction. As the planks fly off, the camera rotates around to reveal what was inside the cube: a strange silver object with "NEW DIMENSION" in blue, stacked on top of each other and stamped onto the bar above the rounded part. When the camera fully turns into position, it reveals that the object is actually a conjoined "nd" hybrid, with the "n" resting on top of the "d" and the bottom of the right part of the "n" forming the stem of the "d". The text is also located on the side of the left part. The logo continues to turn until it stops at a comfortable angle, just as the last of the planks fly off-screen.

Variant: A trailer variant has the logo start off when the planks fly off, and "PREVIEW" appears vertically on the "d"'s stem.

Technique: CGI.

Audio: A strange-sounding snap sound can be heard when the cube breaks apart, which is followed by an ascending synth chime tune accompanied by six reverberating synth piano notes. The trailer variant is silent.

Availability: Seen on tapes of Unmasking The Idol, Deathstalker II, Radioactive Dreams, Cold Steel, Neon Maniacs, Demon of Paradise, and a few others.
