Background

Braveworld was a home video company from the UK that was active from 1985 until it was dissolved in 1999 due to heavy losses, though they had stopped releasing tapes by mid-1994. Their releases during the 90s were distributed by Warner Home Video.

1st Logo (1985?-1989)

Visuals: On a yellow background with a black and red border surrounding it, a white circle with a red border is seen. Inside the circle is "BRAVEWORLD" in a tall serif font, with the "B" being bigger than the rest of the letters. It is white with black bordering and has a red shadow. 2 black parallelograms border the name on the top and bottom respectively.

Technique: A still, printed image.

Audio: None.

Availability: Appears on the company's releases from the era including the 1988 UK VHS release of Worzel Gummidge Down Under.

2nd Logo (1989-1994)

Visuals: Footage of sepia-colored clouds plays out, before it fades to a stretched and mirrored version of the footage, with the horizon set just below the centre of the screen. A sky blue line then expands out just below the horizon's centre, and the "BRAVEWORLD" text from the previous logo, but fully in white and the "B" as an outline, flips up from the line as it fades out. A metallic turquoise parallelogram then rapidly zooms out above the text, followed by another parallelogram flipping and zooming out slowly below it. Just before the second parallelogram stops zooming, a yellow circle draws itself around the logo to complete the look.

Technique: Live action and 2D computer animation.

Audio: The sound of wind blowing plays throughout the logo, with a soft, somewhat ominous synth ditty playing overtop it when the background mirrors. Metallic bangs are heard when the line draws in and 3 more plays when the parallelograms appear. A strange ascending chime melody also plays when the circle draws in, and a soft repeating set of chimes plays throughout the rest of the logo as they fade out.

Availability:

  • Appears on later releases from the company such as the 1989 UK VHS release of BraveStarr: The Legend, the 1990 UK VHS release of The Revenge Of Al Capone (1989), and the 1992 UK VHS releases of Freddie as F.R.O.7 and Bevanfield Presents: Beauty and the Beast, among others, before they discontinued making VHS releases in 1994.
  • However, it does not appear on the 1990 UK VHS release of Hanna Barbera's Personal Favourites: The Flintstones, or presumably any others in the collection, as they only have the 1989 Hanna-Barbera Home Video logo.
