Background

Production I.G, Inc. is a Japanese animation studio and production enterprise, founded on December 15, 1987, by Mitsuhisa Ishikawa and headquartered in Musashino, Tokyo, Japan. The letters "I" and "G" derive from the names of the company founders: producer Mitsuhisa Ishikawa and character designer Takayuki Goto.

The studio has been involved in the creation of numerous anime television series, OVAs, theatrical films, and is further involved in video game design and development, as well as music publishing and management. Among its prominent works are Guilty CrownPsycho-PassEden of the EastHaikyu!! and the Ghost in the Shell series. It is known in the video game industry for developing intros, cut-scenes, and artwork for games such as Namco Tales Studio's Tales of Symphonia.

1st Logo (March 15, 1997-August 14, 1999)


Visuals: Over a black background is a robot-like bug sliding to the left, which the bug was being chased by the letters of the logo. After the bug slides, the bug tumbles and bounces to the center of the screen. The bug was hit by the word "PRODUCTION", which forms the finished logo after the bug fell down. The letters "ING" appear after the logo was pushed to the top of the screen.

Variant: An open-matte version with smooth animation can be seen on MAKING OF GAME - Ghost in The Shell.

Technique: CGI animation using Alias Wavefront PowerAnimator.

Audio: A dramatic violin tune (which is a piece of production music), then it followed by a thud sound and a series of boings.

Availability:

  • Seen on the two Neon Genesis Evangelion movies, Death & Rebirth and Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion. Both of these movies can be found on VHS, LaserDisc, DVD, and Blu-Ray, and can be streamed on Netflix.
