Disney's FastPlay

Background

Disney's FastPlay is a special feature used on Disney DVDs, introduced in the late summer of 2004. The system purports to play the upcoming film and certain bonus features automatically, without needing to use a remote. Infamously, FastPlay will also play all of the trailers and previews featured on the DVD, meaning it can take up to 8-12 minutes for the film to actually start. However, a few titles play the trailers in the end. Recent releases have less trailers before the film.

Logo: The Disney DVD logo (with a mirrored arc, seemingly to match with the FastPlay logo) shines on a cloudy blue background. Tinker Bell flies up and waves her wand on the Disney DVD logo, changing it into the FastPlay logo (consisting of a rapidly spinning DVD), and then flies away with her pixie dust trailing behind her. The pixie dust leaves behind two purple icons below the logo: "Main Menu" on the right (which appears first), and "FastPlay" on the left (which appears second). The Disney FastPlay logo "sparkles" throughout the logo. The Main Menu icon flashes twice, then the FastPlay icon flashes three times timed with the narration. The FastPlay logo shines and the logo fades out.

Trivia:

The animation of Tinker Bell is taken directly from the Walt Disney Masterpiece Collection logo.
Some DVD releases have the arrow appear on "FastPlay," while others have it appear on "Main Menu." This may also occur if you manually select "FastPlay" or "Main Menu" on any computer and/or DVD player.
A 2009 DVD reprint of Mickey's Magical Christmas: Snowed In at the House of Mouse mentions FastPlay on the disc cover, but the disc itself replicates the original 2001 release.
Disney previously used the logo's music "Open Market A" in a Disney Channel "Feature Presentation" bumper in 1986.

Variants: On several foreign Disney releases with FastPlay and when you select a different language on newer American and British DVDs, the text is in their respective language. The following variants are known to exist:

On Portuguese, Italian, Spanish and French Disney DVDs with the FastPlay feature, or if you select the “Spanish” or “French” languages on American DVDs, the text "Disney's" on the FastPlay logo is simplified to "Disney".
On Korean and Chinese Disney DVDs with Disney's FastPlay, or if you select the “Chinese” or “Korean” languages on American and British DVDs, the Tinker Bell animation is skipped, which results in the Disney's Fast Play logo being displayed throughout the entire amount of time that this bumper was allotted.
Depending on the technical capabilities of one’s computer, TV and/or DVD player, this bumper may appear in widescreen or cropped full screen; the full screen version may also be stretched to widescreen and vice versa.

Technique: CGI, with Tinker Bell in traditional cel animation. Interactive for the menu.

Music/Sounds: A series of dings and whooshes with a short, dramatic orchestral fanfare ("Open Market A" by Dick Walter, from the KPM music library), with Tom Kane saying "This Disney DVD is enhanced with Disney's FastPlay. Your movie and a selection of bonus features will begin automatically. To bypass FastPlay, select the "Main Menu" button at any time. FastPlay will begin in a moment!"

Music/Sounds Variants: This is translated for each international version, and is roughly the same spiel each time, specifically:

Japanese: "このDVDはディズニーファストプレイ仕様になっており。本編に続いてオススメの映像特典が自動的に再生されます。ファーストプレーでご覧にならない場合はメニューボタンを押してください。まもなく、ファストプレイが始まります。"
German: "Diese Disney-DVD ist mit Disneys FastPlay ausgestattet. Ihr Hauptfilm und eine Besteht der Auswahl von Extras starten automatisch. Um Disneys FastPlay zu umgehen, wählfen "Hauptmenü" fehen. Disneys FastPlay beginnt in wenigen Augenblicken."
Portuguese (Brazil): "Este DVD da Disney foi equipado com o FastPlay da Disney. O filme e a seleção de bônus especiais iniciarão automaticamente. Para interromper o FastPlay, selecione a qualquer momento o botão "Menu principal". Disney FastPlay começará num instante."
Spanish (Latin America): "Este Disney DVD está mejorado con Disney FastPlay. Tu película y una selección de materiales adicionales empezarán automáticamente. Para desactivar FastPlay, activa el botón Menú principal en cualquier momento. FastPlay comenzará en breve."

French: "La nouvelle fonction Disney Fastoche présente sur ce DVD permé aux plus petits de découvrir le contenu du DVD, films et bonus d'un seul clic. Pour accéder à tout moment le menu chez DVD, appuyez sur la touche menu de votre télécontrôle." This is used in both France and French-speaking Canada.
Italian: "Questo DVD della Disney è stato arricchito con FastPlay Disney. Il filmato e una selezione di contenuti speziali inizieranno automaticamente. Per evitare FastPlay, puoi selezionare il pulsante "Menu principale" in qualsiasi momento. FastPlay inizierà in un istante."
Dutch: "Deze Disney DVD is voorzien van Disney's Snelle Start. De film en een selectie bonusmateriaal zullen automatisch beginnen. Kies op elk gewenst moment de knop "Hoofdmenu" om Snelle Start te negeren. Snelle Start begint over een ogenblikje."
Portuguese (Portugal): "Este Disney DVD tem Disney FastPlay. O seu filme e vos seleção de bonus são iniciados automaticamente. Para saltar FastPlay, selecione o comando tecla "Menu" em qualquer altura. O FastPlay vai começar."
Swedish: "Denna Disney DVD har försetts med Disneys FastPlay. Din film samt utvalt bonusmaterial kommer automatiska visas. För avbryta FastPlay, trycker du när som helst på menyknappen. FastPlay startar om ett ögonblick."
Norwegian: "Denne DVDen fra Disney er utvidet med Disney's FastPlay. Filmen og et utvalg bonusmateriale vil starter automatisk. For avslutte FastPlay, kan du velge "Hovedmeny" knappen når som helst. FastPlay starter straks."
Danish:"Denne Disney DVD indeholder Disneys FastPlay. Din film og dit valg af bonusmateriale vil begynde automatisk. Det er til enhver tid muligt at fravælge FastPlay via hovedmenuen. FastPlay starter om et øjeblik."

Polish: "To DVD jest wyposażone w opcję Szybki Start. Odtwarzanie wybrane do filmów i dodatków specjalnych rozpocznie się automatycznie. Aby zobaczyć wszystkie dostępne opcje, wybierz "Menu Główne". Opcja Szybki Start rozpocznie się za chwilę."
Czech: "Toto DVD je vybavené Disney'ho systémom FastPlay. Váš film a výběr bonusů se spustí automaticky. A chcete vymykat FastPlay, zmáčknete kdykoliv tlačítko menu. FastPlay se spustí za chvíli."
Russian: "Этот диск имеет функцию FastPlay. Сейчас начнётся воспроизведение всех материалов, размещённых на этом диске. Если вы не хотите воспользоваться данной функцией, выберите пункт "Главное меню". Вы можете выйти в главное меню в любой момент, нажав кнопку Меню на пульте."

Turkish: "Bu DVD, Disney'in gelişmiş FastPlay özelliğine sahiptir. Film ve bonus oynatım özellikleri otomatik olarak başlayacaktır. FastPlay'i geçmek istiyorsanız Ana Menü tuşuna basınız. FastPlay birazdan başlayacak."
Hungarian: "Ezen a DVD-n van Disney Gyorsmenü funkció. A film és az extrák lejátszása automatikusan elkezdődik. A Gyorsmenüből a Főmenü gomb megnyomásával bármikor ki lehet lépni. A Gyorsmenü azonnal indul."
Romanian: "Acest DVD Disney este îmbunătățit cu Disney FastPlay. Filmul dumneavoastră și o selecție de bonusuri vor începe automat. Pentru a sări peste FastPlay, selectați butonul main meniu. FastPlay va începe într-o clipă."
Greek: "Αυτό το DVD της Ντίσνεϊ περιέχει το FastPlay της Ντίσνεϊ. Οι ταινίες σας και μία επιλογή από επιπρόσθετες δυνατότητες θα αρχίσει αυτόματα. Για να παρακάμψετε το FastPlay, επιλέξτε το κουμπί του Κυρίως Μενού όποτε θέλετε. Το FastPlay θα αρχίσει άμεσα."

Availability: Current and very common.

Debuted on Mickey, Donald and Goofy: The Three Musketeers. This can be seen on Walt Disney Animation Studios releases since Chicken Little, as well as many spinoffs, a few non-animated films, a load of Disney Channel original movies, and TV shows from the Disney Branded Television networks.
This also appears on Pixar releases starting with Cars Toons: Mater's Tall Tales, Cars 2, and the 2011 reissue of The Incredibles. However, the only Pixar releases not to use this were Toy Story 3 (released the same day as Cars Toons: Mater's Tall Tales) and Onward, especially the latter due to not having previews at all, though the Blu-Ray version did include previews unlike the DVD. It also didn't appear on Pixar films prior to 2010 as they go to the previews manually. The most recent Pixar release to use this was Lightyear, released on September 13, 2022, despite no bonus features at the end.
Most 2000's Disney DVDs with FastPlay has a feature named EasyFind, which use menus that have icons for the selections (as shown here, here, and here), while 2010s and 2020s releases remove EasyFind, which results the icons to be removed. (as shown here, here, and here.)
Notably, the only three instances where it actually did what it advertised were the 2009 Big Wave Edition DVD of Lilo & Stitch, Incredibles 2, and Zombies 2 (due to those releases not having previews, except Incredibles 2 which has them at the end).
This also appears on later Mickey Mouse Clubhouse DVDs (save for Pop Star Minnie), Super Buddies, Frozen II, Luca, and Strange World, all released from 2012-Feburary 14, 2023, despite having no bonus features to speak of. This was also the case for the Pixar films Toy Story 4 (released on October 8, 2019), Soul (released on March 23, 2021), Turning Red (released on May 3, 2022) and Lightyear (released on September 13, 2022), but the bonus features do not play at the end, even though they still have a bonus feature: their commentaries.
FastPlay has become considerably much rarer on Disney releases since Soul, with it only appearing on WDAS and Pixar releases since that film.

Legacy: This bumper is infamous for several reasons:

People claim the hand-drawn animation and CGI look like they've been superimposed onto the bumper and became outdated for re-usage.
Even though the announcer says that the movie will "begin automatically", "Fast" Play starts with a long series of trailers embedded on the DVD, averaging up to 8-12 minutes worth of trailers before the movie starts. A correction would be there being a "Previews" button and the FastPlay button leading to the movie automatically. This led to the bumper (and the enhancement as a whole) becoming rather infamous through the eyes of collectors to the point where it became a minor internet meme (which then led to people calling this bumper "SlowPlay" or "ScamPlay").
Due to the logo's fast nature and technology issues, it was difficult to select either button before the bumper ended.
The logo's abrupt appearance and nature have also been known to scare numerous children at the time.
Since the enhancement began to be phased out in 2020, it was falsely rumored that the bumper would retire in 2021 (due to it most recently being used on the DVD of Strange World, released on February 14, 2023). As of now, only time will tell if the enhancement will be phased out or not.
