Background

Swindon Cable is the UK's first commercial cable TV franchise, set up by Thorn Ltd. It would broadcast its programs across Swindon under the name of Swindon Viewpoint from 11 September 1973 up until 1985, where it would be rebranded to Swindon Cable before rebranding to "Swindon's Local Channel" in 1987. It would eventually cease TV broadcasting in 2000 and would later become an online-exclusive community TV station under its Viewpoint name.
